cross country skis

Is there any way I can get a cross country ski to be used for kite skiing? I want to get into cross country skiing and kiteskiing but I really dont need the cost of buying two sets of skis boots and bindings.

Mood: They're ALL good ideas. Right up until they become BAD ideas.

I've seen a local guy here that uses telemark skis and he has no problems getting upwind. He actually said he doesn't always need to lock the heel down either. I bet this is your best bet although I don't know how they behave when used as traditional cross country skiing.

I have'nt tried my cross country gear with kites but it should work if you have a surface that will give you something to edge into but not trip you up when turning. Telemark gear would definitely be better than skate gear, and classic gear might be least suited because it is built for the kick & glide motion . I find I need good ankle support from my boot because there are more lateral forces when kiting than skiing.
