Migraines

So, I rarely get sick. In fact I can hardly remember the last time I got sick. What I do remember though is the last time I had a bad headache and it seemed that it was when a big system was moving in and was pressure related. The irony is that we're in the middle of a few good days of wind but also tells me that maybe this headache I'm fighting now has something to do again with the pressure swings. Anyone else have this phenomenon in their kite-life? Good old Advil isn't cutting it for me - hence the suspicion that I might have a mild case of the migraines.

Could be just age creeping in on me too ; )

That grey hair around your ears would be the big clue.
Where you live is there anything that is blooming right now that you may be sensitive to?
Hay fever and allergies can cause headaches as bad as a migraine. Check your house for black mold too.

Or it could just be that you are in withdrawals from snow kiting.

The pressure may or may not be affecting your headaches. But I'm here to tell you, there's no such thing as a "mild" migraine. If you're not sure whether or not you have a migraine then you don't. When you head hurts so bad you can't see well and any type of even the faintest light makes it worse then you probably have a migraine. If you try to take a prescription medicine orally to alleviate the pain and end up vomiting, thus making said headache worse, and you can't wait to shove a prescription suppository up your bum then it is in fact a migraine.

By the way, Advil sucks for headaches. Try Excedrine.

maybe not the air pressure but the spring sun , change in total light exposure. add it to your diff. dx
good eye protection i believe is essential at all times during sun exposure.

I unfortunately suffer from migranes. Pressure does not seem to affect them. I also have allergies and they do not "collide' with each other symptom wise.

Migranes are a different type of headaches that usually have a 3-4 hour span that they get progressively worse to the point as clintopher says; strong light is like Kryptonite to me! Nausea sets in and eventually vomiting- nice huh?
I take a prescription once I feel them coming on and it works very well. Also eating and MASSIVE amounts of caffine will help them go away. Also going to a chiropractor for regular alignments helps- if my neck is tight- I get the migranes more often.

Medical use of something that contains THC does wonders! Hint hint:cool:

Most certainly wasn't a migraine - and thank goodness for the by the sounds of it. It's just nagging now but suspect dehydration? It happens from time to time. I did have a good week long throb last time the though occurred ot me so I thought this might have been similar but evidently not. I even stared it in the face and took the Phantom out to play with the Coyotes ; )

As for the allergies, not much this year. I do usually get one spell from seasonal type influences but it comes in the form of a cold/fever and passes quickly. We got off lucky this year and the snow melted fast and dried quick so there is nearly no snow mold around which used to get me. In fact I am hard pressed to recall the last time I actually got sick.....better count those blessings ; )

Learned a bunch about migraines though - thanks for that! And condolences to beachrights.....I was worried I'd developed a kite curse. I can only imagine how it'd be to be hurt by something you love (the wind). I guess the good thing is that pressure isn't your culprit.....if there can be a "good thing" when it comes to migraines.

Dehydration will certainly cause headaches as well as cause fatigue, cramps, nausea and quite a few ailments you could do without. Like they reinforced in us in the army, if your urine isn't clear, drink more water.

Water Water Water, get some yummy clean water and drink it. Kiters use shoulder and neck muscles every min of flying. Good care for these muscles involved water and push-ups, via my trainers advice.

Mig headaches are bizzar. NO nerve ending on the skull so it's all jaw and neck muscle contractions. When My girly get severe headaches I massage the back of her head and neck. I try to find bands of muscles that feel tight, then I strum on them like a guitar string. It has worked every time.

:dunno: good luck!

I've been thinking of setting up the camel back on the buggy because I get caught in the moment it seems every time I buggy and forget to drink water. I could strap it onto my backrest and then clip the tube on my shirt. Anyone gone down this path before?

I'm thinkin it might be a Sunday dinner time ride in Leduc? Our BIG DAY is getting close and we're off to a prenatal course Sat/Sun 10-4. I'm sure I could convince her we should go visit her mom after we're done Sunday ; )

ahh yes. the ' The Big Day' day is near. maybe added stress/anxiety is causing/contributing to recent headaches. it's all good though. all the sleep your "not" going to get, 1000s of diaper changes, dog has new bad attitude, and feedings every 2-3 hours is worth it for what you do get in return.
sunday-no worries...if you want an easy/simple ride don't bring any gear (other PPE). we'll have plenty of buggies and kites here.

Some alt health types will say magnesium deficiency will cause migraines. There is topical magnesium, ("magnesium oil" or "magic oil") and the like to try around your head. Also a powdered mag. supplement called "Natural Calm" that you drink like hot tea - it can -really- relax muscle strains!
