Tangled lines
Took my beamer 4m out for the second time today and when i unpacked it the power and brake lines were twisted together, not sure if i wound up the
lines wrong but does anyone have any tips on how to do it best ?
also when i spin the handles round to get the twists out the power lines look to be twisted themselves, not sure if this weakens the lines?
also when i got it out today the bridle lines were twisted into eachother, not sure how that can even happen!?
basically anyone with any tips on packing the kite back away in a way that doesnt nacker it up would be of help

Welcome to kite flying
you got a visit from the kite gremlins. They love to get in your bag and twist all your lines up.
Seriously though you will find a method that works for you and this will be a thing of the past. I promise ;-)
Some people para pack (do a search) and some people figure 8 around the handles. Try them both and see what works best for you.

I place both handles together in my left hand evenly...{with my right hand} reach over the top lines to grab both bottom set of lines to bring them
over the top set of lines and wrap once {both the bottom lines and top lines are close together}.... then grab both sets of lines and roll up my
lines holding the bottom ends of the handles .... towards the end I lock in the roll by bringing the 4 lines in between the handles 2 or 3 times
unroll the same way grab the bottom of the handles and unlock the lines as long as you have the bottom of the handles should never bird nest..
when you roll up you kite give enough line to bring the handles up out of the way so when you fold up or roll your wing the handles will be on the
outside of the bridles as long as the handles are away from the bridles you may roll up the handles and kite w/o fear of weaving itself in and around

When my lines get too tangled to deal with I use this method :
Stake 3 out of 4 of the lines . Pull the loose one out of the group by grabbing it and walking it out the end. Repeat until all the lines are clear.
Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.
Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

I take my lines off the kite and do it that way ... worst to date took one walk down the lines more than it usually does. Bit tougher to get the kite
on the lines in big winds though ... I launch sideways if I'm having issues
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Trying to pull through whole lengths of tangled line is TOTALLY frustrating
(especially w/ lines blowing around in the wind, and unsealed sleeved ends bolo-ing and wrapping around the other lines as you pull it thru!)
I think I found the fastest, least stressful way to untangle four lines:
1. anchor kite, stake handles & select the handle whose lines look the most messed up
2. unhook brake line from handle
3. wind it onto a small spool, weaving it thru the knots and tangles while walking toward the kite
4. walk back to handle while letting the line freely unspool behind you
5. repeat 1-3 with power line from same handle
6. Now, all you should have left are the simple twists in the other handle's 2 lines, which you simply pull apart and ride back up as you unspool the
power line back to the first handle.
Only problem is to remember to always take your handy spool along during any kite outing.

Oh I should elaborate I guess ...
I stake the brake lines, disconnect the kite from the lines and (try) to fold it up and put it in the bag. HOWEVER ...
... looking at the manual a few weeks back, I discovered that Mr. Lynn included a velcro strap in the center of the kite on the leading edge that's
designed to be used for securing the bridle lines. Bloody nice touch, haven't had tangled bridles since! :D
So kite is packed, then I wind my lines in figure 8 onto the winder I made - just small enough to fit the PL bag, it's about 40cm long - from the kite
end to the handles so ...
... next time I just stake the handles, walk out the line off the winder then once the lines are laid out, do The Walk again, down the lines from
handles to kite end.
I use The Finger Method to sort the lines - one line between fingers in one hand (eg. left hand closest to handles and right hand smoothing out to
kite end walking from handles to kite end and left steering line between thumb and index, left brake between index and middle finger etc etc) and keep
the lines loose and 'flat' with the other, walking it out. 99% of the time this gives perfect results in one pass.
Then hook up the kite and fly ... if I'm getting loop tangles when unpacking
then I know it's time to do The Walk with un-attached lines, run them through my fingers to straighten or smooth the lines.
Meh needs pics I guess ... I'll try the parapacking method too but I've had endless hassles when I keep everything connected.
Hey question - is it 'bad' for the kite material to be stuffed into the pack anywhich way, rather than folded nicely?
