Older PL Buggy

I bought this buggy a couple of weeks ago from the original owner. He says it's about 9 years old and is a Peter Lynn. He bought it from a shop on the West Coast (Oregon) but doesn't have any details. I cleaned it up, put on new tires and bearings and love this thing! (my first buggy and definitely not my last) I want to replace the seat and as I started to search the net to find out what model buggy this is I can not find any pictures that match this buggy! Does anyone know what model this thing is? I'm wondering if the seats for a Comp will fit on here. It doesn't have an axle (the threads are right on the side tubes) and there is a "riser" where I put the blue noodle to save my lumbar.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

I would imagine that the comp seats would fit in there. Odd little buggy though. Looks almost like a PL Folding Buggy, without the folding parts. Best of luck.

The XR seat sits pretty low and you could have ground clearance issues. I can measure mine to give you a depth so you can have an idea of how low it drops below the side rails.

I'm curious to know which buggy that is as well. My buddy just picked up some buggy parts that match that exact buggy. He only has the side tubes and that rear support/connecting brace, plus the seat. No down tube, fork or wheels. Would be nice to know what it is so he can get the right parts to complete it.

Ha, I own the same buggy. I was told it was a flexifoil, but with that big front fork, PL makes more sense. Here is what I have done.

You will need to build your own, I tried other seats... Lots of issuews. Was easier, cheaper, and a LOT more effective to build your own. You can even get a little butt-guard in there.

Hey Sailors,
I do believe that is a very early prototype PL buggy.
I saw the first in Bristol, England in 1990.
Martin Lester bought it off Peter after the festival.

That seating position was the problem.
Too much weight behind the axle.
Became a bit tail-happy at speed.

So this has been driving me nuts, and Dylanj423's post gave me a new angle to search. Flexifoil was the key. I was able to find a website that described different Flexi buggys and this is not a Flexi Original, it's a Flexi Sport. I foind a picture on a UK site and there is a fair amount of mention about the sport, but no real details. This pic is supposedly a Flexifoil Sport Buggy.

Does anyone know if any "current" Flexi seats would fit onto this frame or is making my own the most feasible route for a nicer seat?

I purchased that buggy way back then. Almost imediately it started bending; the wheels started to lean inwards. The US distributor at the time (Cobra Kites) didn't give a rats behind. Basically told me to go pound sand. I sold it. Promised never to do business with them again.

This kite was ridden quite a bit by the previous owner on the beaches of Oregon and it made it 3 times to Burning Man. He originally bought it to take to Burning Man and met some folks there that invited him to the Oregon beaches. He was a big guy, about 240, and the buggy has no cracks, bends, or any other issues. It's very solid. I paid $100 for it, so even if I snapped it in half, I'd still have 3 spare wheels with brand new tires and bearings for another buggy, so I'm pretty happy with it. It also goes like a bat outta hell when the wind picks up to the 20's which it did Monday and also around lunchtime today. You can't hold a product at fault for a lousy distributor, although you would hope Flexifoil would have been concerned about the non-chalant attitude towards your problem.

your best bet is to custom build your own seat.

the XR+ will probably not fit, and neither will the Flexi seat since its designed for straps to run around a rear axle. the side rails are higher so the seat is deeper.

i could see the Comp ST seat fitting, but no guarantee either.

The buggy above that Dylan own was the first buggy that I ever got. I bought it from him during DBBB. I used it for a while and sold it to Kevin (local beginner that wanted to get into buggying). He just had a birthday this past saturday so I thought it would be a nice surprise to make a custom seat for him as a gift. Got his wife to sneak the buggy over to my place for a while.

I took the seat from my Cricket buggy and modify the straps to conform to the lower rails of the flexi-sport.
here's some pics of the outcome. It's not too bad since the back rails come up pretty high to provide back support.

That's a great seat Van...fantastic birhtday gift!

I have a PL folder that looks quite similar to this buggy. I was able to snag a custom Scorpion seat for it a few years ago. When I mentioned to my kite pal, BR, my worry about what I'd do when that seat ever wore out, he said with complete confidence, "oh you'd get Van to make you another one!":spin:

what did you do about the seat

Vtliter,

Did you ever make your own seat? I bought this same buggy from someone on this forum years ago (still my first and only buggy). I initially used it in the wheat fields in Oklahoma. Now I use it at the beach in SC. The seat is still ok and I padded the bars with those foam noodles for swimming. I woldn't mind a better seat and possibly a splash guard. A few weeks ago I was having a nice session at Cherry Grove beach but there was a spot that I had to cross with water. It was cold out and I zipped through it a couple times but my pants were soaked and cold when I was done. Still a good time.
