The best kite i've ever flown...

Ok so i know i'm a bit of a flysurfer pimp but i honestly don't enjoy their smaller kites and don't like the psycho4 at all in any size but the 12, i'm just trying to qualify the enormous amount of excitedness i'm about to expell :) ...

I just bought for the first time a 15m speed2 deluxe edition, took it out yesterday evening after work at sunset. I've never owned a speed 2, although i have flown a 19m before and i owned a 17m sa... but this kite is revolutionary. I have no idea how on earth they are going to improve this kite without sacrificing some of it's amazingness.

The wind was probably peaking at about 11mph, i took the kite up and felt ok, but i honestly did not think there was anyway i would ride, especially as i had to get out past the break and the wind was directly onshore. I've attached the windgraph, i was out between 6:45 and 7:30pm. I took it down to the water, swung it through the window and i was shocked that it just lit me up! I roared up wind, jumped through the break and i was out at sea!!!

I've honestly never had quite as much fun riding such a big kite. It turns pretty fast and the jumps are just incredible, its so stable, i even rode a few waves and it's just mindblowing! Most kites have their little problems or funny things they do, not this one. It really was perfect in everyway i can think of! I self launched and self landed no problem at all using the deluxes FDS. i finish work at 6pm, took me 30mins to get to the beach, unpacked and launched in 5 minutes, on the water riding 5 minutes later.

Bar pressure perfect, i can't rave enough. This is the only flysurfer i own at the moment as i have tubes for all other conditions but i think i will be using this kite in as much wind i'm physically able to hold it down it. Not to mention it looks absolutely gorgeous in the sky.

My 17m SA pales in comparison to this, as does pretty much all my other kites. I hate it when people say there's no point in going out in less than 18mph to me... i had more fun in gusty 6-11mph yesterday than i've had for a long long long time on my tubes in higher winds...

Over, rave over. :)

If you haven't tried one of these things, try it, and get one as soon as you can, they might screw it up with the speed3!!!

Dom, have you tried the P4 in 10m. That is my favorite, but not tested the 12m.

Sometimes I think that I should have a Speed2 15m instead of the P4 15m, but being heavier than you and Brian, I can afford to keep longer on the 19m. I had so much fun last year when I had the SA2 15m.

My S2 15 is regular fabric and it was my favorite kite until I got the SA 19. The 19 turns a little slower but it seems to fly better. I'm not sure if that's the fabric or maybe a different tune between the kites. Ted B lives not too far from me and he's supposed to show me a couple little tricks with tuning these things. If I can get the 15 to fly like the 19 then my favorite would likely be decided with the flip of a coin.

I'm with Brian...I like 10-12 too.

what is said on PKF stays here :D

I like tubes too for small sizes, but not for the winter, that is why I stick to FS then. And small tubes for me will be useless in Montreal during summer.

I agree, if i was only riding on land i would probably only own flysurfers and peter lynns... tube kites feel better on water for me though which is 99% what i ride on these days :)

haha, I think this comment deserves some explanation.

snobdr and I are good friends. As a matter of fact, we went out last Sunday and wind was 10~13mph. It was just four of us on the beach due to "no wind" forecast. Three (snobdr, barnes and I) tried to go out but I was the only one riding (with SA2 15M). Sorry snobdr

I agree! Leebrianh was kind enough to loan me his 15m SA2 for a week of snowkiting last year.

I loved it...didn't have the ultra low wind grunt like my old 19m SA2, but was way quicker turning and had a much better top end for me (160 lbs).

Here is a pic of Brian's 15m SA2 on a frozen lake in Iowa - thanks again Brian!

The one in the picture is my old one  I sold it and got P4 15M SA2. Later I sold P4 and got 2nd SA2.5 15M  I will never let this one go.

I am with Dom on Speed3. I don't know how they are going to beat Speed2's low end, especially when they are adding "project area change" function just like P4.

IS there much difference in SA and regular fabric for the SPEED 2? for ultra light like 6mph-8mph i'm sure it's an advantage but for 10-12mph which is super light for water to begin with...is the advantage still apparent.

can you get the P4 in SA fabric with the deluxe set up ?

love the custom red.

Yes there is a slightly one. The light fabric on the SA2 15m will make the kite fly a bit faster and turn a bit faster, but hard to notice. That is probably because less drag because the kite is lighter.

But does it make a difference when riding on the water in winds above 12 knots. Probably not.

In lulls, yes it can help.

Yes you can get a Psycho 4 15m in Skytex as a special edition custom order. Brian had one, but now belongs to someone here nearby Montreal.

ok gents....so after reading this post last night...today I went to the beach and winds were only 6mph....I was hoping it would pick up but never did...so I took out My SA2 19..and flew it for the first time....No preinflation...pulled it and up it went...winds got to 8mph and although I only flew it on land..it had some power but more importantly just flew so nice and stable...cant wait for a 10-12mph day and get on my spleene 164 monsterdoor...I do weigh 200lbs...but I think I should be able to ride no problem...

The whole time I flew the kite today..I was smiling...it was awesome..really sweet and fast for a big kite..looped it a few times...just alot of fun..

You'll get up no problem in 10-12. If you've got any kind of skills, unlike myself, you should be able to go lower than that. I weigh 180, have the 19 SA and a 159 door. I was kiting in 12ish the other day no problem...matter of fact, it was my first time to go upwind. No telling how far upwind I'd have got if I known what the hell I was doing.

Did you notice any difference between the 15m SA2 and 15m SA2.5?

i'll chime in....

the S2 12m is the Best i think.... SA2 15m is next in line....

I agree Dom... i have doubts the speed3 will compare to the awesomeness of the S2.

SA2.5 is heavier but stronger. Once the kite's up in the air, I don't feel any difference, to be honest with you.
