Line/Handle help needed

The lines broke (at the handles) on the Ace 5M I got a few weeks ago. I put it on the Blaze's lines, but I would like to have another set of lines so I can fly both of them. Do I need a new set of lines and handles or can I fix what I have?

The kite picked me up and the line broke where it goes into the handle. There used to be a plastic line gaurd, but it has tore up. Can this be fixed? :puzzled:

There wasn't a leader that came out of the handle for me to attatch the lines to. That is how it came. When I got the Blaze it had a leader coming out of the handles.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

- Oz

Did the flying line break or the leader on the handle?

Flying line - There was no leader on the handle. The flying line when right into the handle.

The guy I got it from said he had put new handles on it.

No, but I will take some so you can see - even though it is broke now. I had to disconnect the lines at the kites to switch them. I couldn't figure how to disconnect the lines from the one set of handles (without breaking them of course)

Sounds like you don't believe me . . .

It is just that probably none of us have ever seen handles that the lines attached directly to. Sounds like someone really rigged up something there. If these are the original pansh handles AND they don't have any leaders, you might be money and trouble better off if you buy some handles from another mfr. All the handles I've ever tried are better than the best Pansh handles I've ever seen. I haven't seen current production since about 16 months ago though. They seem to continuously evolve their products instead of releasing new models on a calendar basis so maybe they are up to industry standard by now.

I believe you. I just want to see this handy work. And like BB said depending on what we see in the pics you will probably be better off buying new handles.

Ok, Ok you guys were right - I'm retarted! :embarrased: :embarrased:

But in my defense the leader is not much (if any) bigger/thicker than the lines.

So the leader is what broke at the handle. All the leaders are this same small thread. So can I just replace the leaders?

I have pictures - how do I post them?

They could be from a ProFoil.

Take the end caps off.
Pull the lines out through the ends of the handles.

Go to the marine store and get some strong running line about 3/16 or so
Drill out the holes to size and clean the burrs
Tie figure-of-eight stopper knot in the line and thread through end of handles and out the hole
replace caps

Of get a decent set of handles for starting about $18 plus postage.

Yeah those are profoil handles (got a couple of sets myself.) They can be fixed, but it would take some work. First, for the power leaders- about 1.5' feet of amsteel (extremely strong, thick spectra line) and some clear silicone tube (for each side.) The bottoms could be done with Q-line and some more clear tube. You might be better off to buy set of good new handles- I know not really what you want to do but... The new handles will have nice attachment points for a strop line and would be all ready to go. Also, it would give you a frame of reference to fix/modify the ones you already have. I am somewhat leery of the profoil handles that I have- not because of the quality but because I modified them before I really knew what I should have used and how to do it. These are obviously subject to quite a bit of stress and IMHO are something worth spending a little extra cash on.
