Bay area kite buggying?
Hey there everyone!
Looks like a nice community you all have here. Anyways I live in the bay area(San Jose) and have been thinking about giving kite buggies a try. I
remember I use to see them on Ocean Beach in SF a few years back but I read they aren't allowed there anymore? Maybe I'm wrong. Is there anywhere else
in the bay to buggy?
I've been flying stunt kites for years and traction kites(static) for a few years now. I'm just dying for some speed though.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Hey BJ-
Welcome to the forum! You're lucky, San Jose is close to one of the only places we have left! Near Shoreline ampitheatre in Mt. View is an overflow
parking lot with a small grass kiteflying area and a much larger dirt/gravel area where it's approved to buggy/landboard. Take Shoreline Blvd. to the
end and drive past the little guard shack. The ampitheatre'll be on your left. The second driveway(or third?) on the right is parking for the kite
area.
Some days there are a lot of single line kite flyers out there, until you get the hang of your buggy I'd suggest you set up out a ways so as not to
endanger anybody. Also those cheap lines will cut through yours like butter! Remember you're an ambassador for the rest of us so BE CAREFUL!
Hope to see you out there!

Thanks for the heads up gilligan. I am also from the bay area and have been put off from buying a buggy or landboard because I didn't know where I
would be able to ride.
Seems like there should be some list of places where people ride. Would be a huge help for people such as ourselves who are trying to get into
powerkiting.

Dublin here... let me know if you want to have a go sometime. Like I said earlier, there is a small, less than ideal field nearby where I've been
going if I don't have the time for Shoreline. Also a couple of smaller, decent grass parks for static flying.

Hey Screwyfits-
I know you can't always go to Lodi... where do you go locally? I used to go to this field directly south of the Livermore airport where it'd been
graded for a business park. That is, until I started getting kicked out by a security guard they had posted. I'm guessing now though, with the economy
in the toilet, they may've temporarily given up on the spot. I'll have to go out there and check it out again.
It sucks that there isn't a great or even good spot nearby.

Oh wow you all are a great bunch! Sorry it took so long to reply(being a full time college student AND working full time thoroughly blows).
Anyways It would be great to try a buggy before I buy/build one(mech.eng major so it should be a fun challenge!) Perhaps you guys will have a meet up
sometime so I can tag along and check you guys out in action? Let me know whenever you guys make a trip somewhere. :wee:

Hey anyone from here gonna be down at the shoreline kite area this weekend? I live in Alameda but I'm thinking about trying landboarding so I was
gonna head down to see if anyone has a buggy out or landboard so I can check it out in person. I have about 15 hours on my trainer kite so far and I'm
loving it but not currently looking to get into the water....

Hey Gilli,
Wow I missed this thread after I posted a while back!!!
I fly in Livermore at a few parks, but rarely get to buggy here, that's a lodi sod farm deal... I just recently hooked up with Erik here in Livermore
and brought him and his nephew out to the farm and had a great time with the lil wind we had that day... he has a spot in the north east side of
Livermore that he bugs at, I'm going to give it a try soon...
