My first
Hello Everyone,
Just to introduce myself to you - I am probably known better as Wendy from the posts from DonaldLL. I flew my brand new kite for the first time
yesterday:shocked2:Today was much better, if you know what I mean!
Today was a remarkable day - Day 2 for me. My avatar comes from the pictures that we took today!:wee: I had such a blast!!!!! We (Donald) bought and
picked out a 2.4 m Flexifoil kite for me, which seems to be the best fit for me! I buried it really bad once today, but I got the hang of it pretty
fast (I think). :shocked2: I spent a lot of time going up to the left and then to the right and to the left and right again and even took some chances
on making some figure 8 turns. Now that was fun :wow: I even played with the break lines and practiced landing, some good, some not so good! I am not
really sure what went wrong, but I even took a tumble hanging on to the kite strings, laughing all the while and when I got up, to my disbelief, the
kite was still in the air. I didn't even miss a beat! I can see that we will probably be out at the park on a more regular basis!!
I am not usually a person of such few words, but I can tell you all that I was out there flying for only a few hours yesterday, and we were out there
again today for another 4 hours or so. I cannot believe how much the front of my neck hurts from looking up and from the continual grinning, squealing
(like a girl - go figure) and screaming that I was doing. Not to mention my back, arms, etc...., all a little sore, this stuff is like a full body
workout without being boring!
By the way the wind gusts were pretty incredible, and Donald even invited me to fly his brand new 4m Beamer! Might not have been a good day for that one. I did leave the ground once, the wind was so intense, and I was
already tired from playing with the smaller 2.4m Flexifoil. I will let him tell you all about that one!!! I didn't get to fly that too long.
Been a long day, and I am so totally exhausted, I am outta here! I will leave you all with this - Now when someone says to "Go fly a kite", I have a
totally new idea of what they must have meant to say!!!

If that is your reaction to flying static, wait until you get in a buggy.

I flew static for about a year before I seemed to be ready for the buggy. I tried at about 5 months and could turn left but not right. Then again
later that fall and did a little better but not enough that I could enjoy it. Then at 1 year, I GOT it. I could turn equally well each direction,
slide through my turns and work upwind with ease. This honeymoon period that Winkie and Donald are in is necessary and enjoyable all on its own. Fly
as much as you can and you will reach a point where you know what the kite is going to do before it even does it. Every level brings its own
enjoyment and a new horizon. Welcome to the forum as well Winkie. Donald is a regular here already.

Thanks for the invite BeamerBob. I think I am going to stay planted on the ground for now for starters. I like adventure, but I believe it is good to
start slow and get comfortable at one thing at a time.
I came home so exhausted tonight from work (body, mind and soul). Last night body tired, but could not shut my brain off. Can't wait for the rush to
begin again next weekend! In for a long haul as today is only Monday!

Yes, I was actually encouraging you to take your time to learn the kites behavior very deeply. Even then when you sit in the buggy and it starts
rolling, you will immediately forget 75% of what you've learned about kites. "Brakes? What brakes?":Ange09:
