Setting up Paypal accounts - change of topic
The Paypal issue is more interesting to me than my original post so I'm going to change it to that topic only...
... how does paypal work? I've got one inquiry from a serious buyer to ship kites but he wants to pay via paypal and I don't have an account for
that. Do I specifiy a bank account to accept the money from the buyer or how actually do I get to the money that the buyer would pay me via paypal?

you need to set up a paypal account. you select an account you want to use or a card. its real easy. just dont forget that pp charge for the
service so you dont get whats paid in. also if you use it to buy stuff then you are insured in case the seller doesnt send the item and you get your
money back.

I doubt that you would be liable for damages, if you had not written on the internet that you had qualms about selling the kite to a newby. If you
are worried, get the purchaser to give you a signed waiver saying they understand that this is not a toy and that improper use is likely to cause
serious injury or death. Stores do not seem to have much qualms about it as I have seen a 140lb., 74 YO man sold a 5m as a starter kite.

Definitely get a paypal account set up and get the merchant account if possible that allows you to accept credit card payments that are sent to your
paypal account and once you receive the payment you can send the money right to your personal bank account. I think the fees are around 3% or
something like that for the use, but it sure makes things easy. I have used it for a couple of years and no problems. Also makes the buyer seem a
little bit more serious to me. Good luck and I wish I could buy that 8.5 I love the air time you can get with one. :Ange09:

I'm looking at the Paypal information. Is all of it free to sign up? Looks like I can just choose "merchant/business" or "personal". Is that all
there is to it? Same fees for both but more options for business?
But the merchant one asks for the name of the store and average sales, etc. Do I just make that up or will it be verified?
If I use the personal one, can only people with PayPal accounts pay me or can I accept credit cards too? And how do you get the money on a personal
account?

This is probably the most straightforward view of the differences between the personal and business accounts.
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-o...
The most significant differences between personal and business accounts. Business accounts are charged for bank backed funds,
while personal accounts aren't.
For receiveing card backed funds, personal accounts are charged a higher service fee than business accounts.
A personal account can only accept 5 debit or credit card backed transactions per month.
A personal account can only accept $500 in credit or debit card backed funds.
Funds on all accounts are transferred the same way. If you have a positive balance on your Paypal account, you transfer it to the bank or card
that you have on file.
If you don't transfer the balance, it is automatically used as part of the default funding source for your next purchase.

You should be able to set up a Premier personal account and not a Business account.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Premier accounts are for members who will have a high transaction volume, need to accept credit card payments, or would like access
to our special features not offered with Personal accounts. Premier accounts include all the benefits of Personal accounts, as well as our special
features.
Business accounts allow you to do business under a company or group name, accept all payment types for low fees, and accept payment
from customers without PayPal accounts. Business accounts include all of the benefits of Premier accounts, as well as our special features.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope that helps.

Sam

Paypal uses your credit card to send and receive money, with your email address as the account number - so nobody get your CC number
You gotta pay PayPal fees if you're receiving money and to get a Premium account you gotta pay a few bucks too but that's no hassle.
Paypal also gives you a limited sort of protection, if the deal goes wrong ... but you'll have better luck with your CC company apparently ...
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

OK, so now I've got my PayPal account set up. If someone is willing to buy my kites (anyone in the US, anyone???) when requesting money, do I specify
"goods" or "auction goods, non-ebay" does it matter? And do I simply put in their email address and they get billed and the money shows up in my
account if they buy?

Have only had a few money requests. Generally, an amount is agreed on through emails/forum postings. Then the seller emails, U2U's, transmits by
trained falcon the email associated with they paypal account and I send the funds.
Basically "push" instead of "pull", but what you outlined works too.
Would just put "goods".... generally that's what I have put on most/all forum kite purchases. They might run stats on that one every 10 years. Never
really clear what if anything they do with that field.
