There's a company here that is apparently the only one in the world  who makes landboards with big balloon tyres a la the Rollez jobbies ... the price is pretty appalling though or I'd have bought one :(
I've thought about getting out on an old snowboard is the soft sand we have here ... bet it makes a mess of the base though!

Buy one and let us know how it goes

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

I think I am going to get one. it will be fun to give it a try:tumble:,
I wonder what will happen when it hits some wet sand or shallow tide pools.
who knows what's next the amphibian board:frog:, sand to surf.

There are a couple of Sanboard makers - one in the US, I think.

I read where they recommend different waxes and finishes depending on the sand.

You still have to wonder about the friction co-efficient. Like, would you need a big@ss kite just to get going - with sudden, jerky stops n' starts? Is edging more practical in soft or hard sand?

I agree on one thing though: it WOULD be "flipping bad A$$" if those things worked the way our imaginations do!

It still sounds "in development" though - but it's all for a Good Cause! (from their website's news):

"Gnarly Sandboards have been researching kite sandboards, and as part of our development process, Marty (owner) will be joining an expedition to the Sahara desert in August.

The Mad Way South expedition will see 4 Kite Buggy pilots attempt to cross the Sahara desert under wind power alone, a feat never accomplished before. The plan is to cover 2500kilometres in 30 days from Agidir to Dakar.

The root of the madness, and the risk of life and limb will be to raise 100k to fund a Cambodian refuge for girls who are child sex slave victims. All moneys raised via donations and the sale of the 13 part documentory will go directly to She Rescue Home.

Marty will be Joining the team as a support crew member. Gnarly Sandboards have donated 4 Gnarly Kite sandboards for the trip to allow the guys to get off the buggies and have some fun on the boards.

During the testing of our boards in one of the most extreme environments on the planet Gnarly Sandboards owner, Marty will push the boards to there limits to ensure that on return to Australia that our kite sandboards will be developed to become the benchmark for Kite Sandboards."

cool

looks fun the hard pack sand might be faster . softer stuff would be fun

the soft stuff at our beach is minimal and turns to dune after the tide line and that is a "NO touch environment"

shallows and wet is all fun i do with my flat light wind board now

BUT the board can get a suction seal t on the wet and can be a real unfriendly toy
and the obvious "catch an edge" events are never nice
