Hay all,

Ive been having a GREAT time with my little kite (3m beamer) and have been looking to upgrade to my first depower kite with the only reason I havent so far being money issues.

Yesterday I met a guy wanting to sell a 9.5m Ozone Frenzy (?2004?) for £150. He says its in really good condition and he's going to let me have a play on it but I want to know peoples opinions on the kite. I tried finding a review on here and couldn't(possibly cos its quite an old kite).

Also Im going to have to buy my own lines and bar for it, is there anything or anywhere you recommend I go for these?

The other option is to go for a new kite, maybe on Ozone access... That seems within my price range. Anything else around that price range would be good to hear.

Oh, in case it comes up Im 5.8ft tall and weigh about 160pounds (10.5stone). I tend to be flying in anything from 10-20mph winds.

Frenzy has a good rep, but I do not have any time on one yet. I do have an Access that I've just added to the demo bag and I have to say I am most pleased with it. Smooth and easy. Nice bar set-up and simple bridle up at the kite. At JIBE, I handed it to a couple of folks who had not flown de-power before and they took right to it.

I just read that the Access isnt so good for jumping which is something I like the sound of (and havent tried thinking it might be suicide on a beamer thats going to be as "floaty" as a brick). Can anyone back this up?

I should have mentioned that the Access is intended as an entry-level de-power, which I thought might be attractive to you. So it's not going to be aggressive or lifty.

I'm not familiar with the older Frenzy's. I think that there were some years that were much less well received than other years, but don't really know the history. I'm only familiar with the 08 Frenzy and 08 and 09 Access kites.

From my experience I would say that the Access is a much better "first depower" kite than a Frenzy. It is so much more forgiving and stable. If I make a mistake with the Frenzy by stalling it, overflying the window, etc. it is harder to recover than with the Access. With those winds either a 6m or 8m Access would be a nice first depower choice. If you can afford a nice new or used 08 or 09 Access then go for it.

The Frenzy might work out for you as well, but I think the learning curve would probably be steeper and learning to fly a depower can be frustrating if you are on your own and don't have anyone to show you the ropes. Also that Frenzy will need a rugged lineset which I'm guessing will run you around $100-125 or so. Also beware if you buy a newer set of Frenzy replacement lines because the newer Frenzy's only have 3 lines.

Also, the Access really doesn't have much lift which is good for learning, but if you are the type that is going to want to go out and start boosting big air right away then this isn't the right kite for you.

Don't forget a harness. The Ozone Access harness is a nice one for land traction.

Also (possibly a dumb question) but which line is for what? I mean is the line with less strength for the breaklines? Or do I need the ones that are all 360kg for a depower kite and the ones that are different strengths for non-depower kites (Im beginning to this this is the most likely)?

The bar you posted in the link for isn't a depower bar, it's made for fixed bridle kites so it won't work with a Frenzy/Access etc. You'll want something like this:

Make sure whatever bar you get says 'depower' in the description.

No worries, the difference between de-power and fixed bridle on a bar (not de-power) is confusing to most people at first. You guessed right- on Fixed bridle kites, the brake lines are the lighter ones and on de-power the lines are all the same, about 250-350 kg.
