I'm going to go:

Kind of a funny topic to discuss i thought. Just like what to call kite landboarding, what do you guys say? I say flying, and it confuses people who dont' know me particularly well they're like "flying? like airplanes?"

I always say flying. The usual reply is, "you're a pilot?"

I say kiting. More people might know what you mean if you said kiting instead of flying.

I told one of my co-workers I was going "to get dragged through a field by four pieces of string tied to a tarp."

and he just said "oh OK" and walked away....I was intrigued by his reaction!

Hmmm.... had to think about it for a sec. I think I either say "flying" or "flying kites" or "kite flying." "Flying" alone always skews towards planes. The caveat is this: All my co-workers know exactly what I am talking about at this point.

Almost all the kites have come in through the office. They have seen a plethora of kites set up in my office: Dual lines, quads, single line, fighters, foils, etc.

All of them have received a crash course in "eddies and box kites are just the tip of the ice berg"

The Ground Industries box raised some eyebrows just due to sheer size and weight.

The UPS folks have gotten pretty good at figuring out what boxes go to me based on the origin addresses, sizes, and shapes. They still get thrown by some of the collateral purchases.

ATB,
Sam

when 'Flying' I am flying paragliders. I go kiting or riding depending on how much riding I do vs. kiting and if I'm talking to paraglider pilot or kiter.

I went flying. What did you fly, a kite or plane? I went kiting. What did you ride?

I say "I'm gonna go fly a kite" and I'm sure people think it's a euphemism like "drop the kids off at the pool" or something then they act all puzzled when I don't come back to the office for like 2 hours :D the wife knows what I mean though and usually asks to come too. You should see the looks we get then

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

People around me are starting to understand. The people at work have seen pictures of me in the paper, and kites coming in via UPS, so they know my kites aren't diamond kites with a knotted ribbon tail. The parents (and especially the kids) on the baseball team understand now. I fly on an adjacent field at practices sometimes, and spread out kites to do line/bar/peripheral maintenance at practice sometimes as well. I say "kite flying" and most understand that these aren't the kites you flew as a kid.

It's even better when you manage to hurt yourself "flying a kite?" Although I'm pretty sure a couple of guys I work with could actually do that with a single line kite.

"i'm going to the beach"

i am gonna do something ....kite , bike, swim, skate .... what ever looks good

OR "take a ride" is dropped just as often.

BUT the wife is ahead of me in the planning dept. and she ask first. "are you going to the beach" it is the default location between 3-7 on any given day.

and i jet pretty quick if the trees have been dancing ...and "GOWNE" is the present state of being.
