Brilliant. I could have used an umbrella at NABX this year. Cool thing is that the shape of the umbrella offers something of an airfoil, and with an A/R of 1.0, I bet it eats gusts pretty well. Now put a beer cooler in the bug and we're all set. Gotta love it.

I'm frustrated because I can't re-locate the Youtube video of a UK beach that was so windy that the guys just stood on their ATBs and held open their parkas to sail along! :wow:

Notice how the top of the umbrella is "vented" I think a regular umbrella would be too much to handle. Where are her killers?!:(

Another benefit I see with this sport is that when the wind dies down, instant shade. Not to mention, a much prettier rider than most of the people I buggy with... lol

A bunch of us did this at NABX this past year. Winds were about 40 and we reached speeds, if I remember correctly, of about 25 using just our jackets. We went all the way down the lakebed; then had to get back. Used a towline, but we learned something; don't use spectra as the towline. A tad slippery. And if you have a full face helmet, use it. We got sandblasted. Ears *full* of playa dust...
