2 Days with a steady 10-12mph wind, couple things, I think we've finally bonded with the new kite, and well, rain and a wet mud bay, finally properly
motivated to put a longer mud flap on the buggy, no more wet sand crotch.
Those beach racers grabbed my attention. I do love 'em.
I imagine they're ideal for the mud? How do you plan to keep your new kite mud free? Someone catch it ?
I finally got my Blade III 4.9 and 4.0 up in the air for the first time today. Ocean Beach in S.F., 10-14mph constant wind. Lots of butt-scudding
while I got used to the handling characteristics of each. Right now, I think the 4.0m is my new favorite kite to fly static (no jumping). It's light,
responsive, and reliably powerful. Also, it's purple, my favorite color.
Anyways, here are a few pics of the kites ready for launch. I was alone, so no action shots:
Well, I figure after a month or so I'll have a lovely brown kite. There really is no fix for the dirty kite from Mud Bay issue. Lime green and white
may have been a mistake, the orange seems to hide the dirt. Plus side, the kite is extremely well behaved for the amount of power it can produce so it
isn't spending much time on the ground.
As for the beach racers, I highly recommend them. float over anything, with the grooves they are pretty grippy in pretty much anything but the organic
greasy patches at mud bay. Down in Seaside I had no issues going upwind in the soft dry sugary sand. You don't slow down that much at all in the dry
sand or mud.

If your only flying one kite, some have been setting up with the kite on the grass and going from there. I pack a bunch of gear so I drag it out onto
the flats
I was going to start taking a big tarp to stage from if I got serious about mud bay.
Ken, I want to see your big white flysurfer landing on a tarp and not falling over any edges. Sounds like good entertainment. (Video or it didn't
happen....)
I think in all honesty, you just need to accept the fact that your kite will get dirty at Boundary Bay, and your buggy, and you. and your car, parts
of your house.....
As usual, I'm late posting, but Saturday, I did make it out with my Buggy and ATB for a quick early morning session at my lakeside parking lot. Sort
of my season opener, since I buggy mainly in the fall and winter. I did try a new kite - a 3.1 M NPW 21 which I built specifically for riding in
mist/rain (plastic tarp material.) Last season some of my best days where in wet condition but my ripstop kites eventually do get waterlogged.
Want to go today, but it is still raining. If the rain stops I am going to the fairgrounds and hope the ground is not too wet. There is a gravel
road on the property so I may be able to work it if I stay mainly on the gravel. Supposed to be plenty of wind.
Temps 35-36, wind 20-35. Perfect day for kite buggy, except for all the standing water on the field. Nonetheless I tried to ride mainly on gravel
but eventually gave in and rode some on the grass/mud/standing water. Fun day. Used 3.1 NPW after a brief try with my 4.5 m single skin g-kite.
All on short lines. First time back at the fairgrounds in 8 months and glad to be back. A bit rusty, but got better as the time went by.
SE michigan got 8" of snow dumped on it 2 days ago. low 20's for temp, low, 10-ish mph wind. in honor of my brother whom passed away on monday, i made
6 short runs with my plastic ice fishing sled in a small school field. he LOVED to goof around with his sled.
one run was with a 4.9 bladeV on slav's 7m line set. next 3 were on susan the npw goddess' 7.6 nasa that she made for me. one of those runs was
great. as the wind slowed, the last 2 runs were on a normal-lined bladeIV 4.9.
i can see why he liked it so much. it was a riot, even with the slow speeds. can't wait to give this a go when jadog's peaks get to me.

Nice to hear you made it out. I had some "last rides" too. (Is that like last rites?). But not as good as yours. I decided to "Wing it" with my
landboards - first at the nearby baseball park and then at the fairgrounds. Just got this a few weeks ago, but until today never had decent wind.
Today it was usual crappy gusty west wind (not that good for either spot), at least I got going some in the gusts with a lot of waiting in between.
A little late... Had a fantastic last day of the year at Coney Island, then 20-30 knots at Smith Point Long Island on New Years day - no video of that
unfortunately. Maybe for the best, had trouble with my foot straps on launch and almost ended up in the trees. Rest of the session was fantastic
though, spray flying off the waves, ankle deep water around the small island, shot out the cut to the ocean where the wind was really howling, put on
quite a few miles. Snowed a little too.
Thanks Randy. Yeah a little chilly, 5/4 wetsuit and one of the best things I ever bought... neoprene hoodie. I've been super toasty this winter
(taking it all off in the parking lot is the cold part).

Today I got confirmation. US 01.
Welcome a newbie to NAPKA :D
I think the racing rules require me to make this official at JIBE.
Something about a minimum number of grains of sand ( or dead sand fleas ) in your kite bags. I'll ask when I get there?
