Even if it just the two of you to start, it is worth it!

I think that once explained the benefits of being part of NAPKA, people will join your group! This needs to happen all over. There is already a shortage of places you can play without someone calling the police or rangers. Show the public that you are a responsible pilot, more people will welcome you!

Hey Rich.... I agree. But the bigger the group.... the bigger the fun.....

Hudson has a kite festival. I think I will see if I can recruit thanson2001ok, midgaar and my son to do a demo when that comes up

Some of my son's Xcountry friends want to try it now that they see pics of him up on the Peter Lynn site.....

I think my son will also be a big help along those lines..... Is there an age limit on being a NAPKA member????

The MN Kite society has a demo during the Hot Air Affair in Hudson, WI which is just 10 minutes from me.

http://www.hudsonhotairaffair.com/schedule.htm

I wonder if it is to late to contact them and see if maybe we can do a short demo with them??? Maybe midgaar and thanson2001ok and my son would volunteer to help out...... There are many times the kites fly and the balloons don't.

There is also the Color the Wind Kite Festival at Clear Lake in Iowa this winter.....

I think if we look around there would be lots of opportunity to introduce people to our sport and show them how green it is.

I would much rather head out with a kite than a noisy snowmobile...... not much thrill there....

Has anyone ever taken an add out in the local paper to recruit flying space from local land owners in the winter?

Around my area there are right of ways set up for the snowmobiler's to cross peoples land and people seem very tolerant of that. I am thinking they would be more tolerant of kiters as the kites emit no noise or noxious fumes.......

Kite festivals, hot air balloon affairs, sounds like you have plenty of opportunity for recruiting new fliers, NAPKA members.

I will have to email Morrie about the age thing, I don't recall seeing one, but would like to check before I give an answer.

We go to the local schools here and show the grade school kids what we do, show videos, all the different kites, take them outside and watch us fly and actually buggy when the wind is right.

We also started attending the "Family Day" events at our local County parks! They loved it when we were there last fall. Huge set up with Two laptops going non stop! Banners, Flags, Buggies, ATB's, Kiteboard's! One totally pimped out Mazda (Thanks Todd) It was a blast! You are well on your way to being an ambassador to the sport!

One thing is for sure, the more the merrier!
Now make them plans for the Spring WBB would ya!

nice thought......bit like a hunting club renting land during the season.......forum member seconwind had success in obtaining farm landto fly on in IA/NE when he was living in the states. I believe he actually canvassed local farms, briefed farmers on our activity, and gained access.................

Dino has done much the same at his sod farm in Nor Cal as well as Pokite and Mgatc here in South Cack............

I used to be a member in one of the most active racing areas of the NAPKA. Some great races, some barely over 20mph and some with speeds near 45mph... always a blast when you get people together with similar interest in buggying.

Spring races might convince me to join again...

What do you do with your foils?

Charger 8, 12, 19
Scorpion 10, 16
And other foils...
