Got the $%^& kicked out of me first day I took out the 6m Rookie2! Winds were way higher than expected, but instead of not giving it a go on the
new kite, I launched it and traveled nearly a soccer field in length, hitting so hard that I killed the kite, and then lay there for a good few
minutes wondering if I should call 911.
I got up and limped while rollin up. Inflamed my sacroilial sac(where hip attaches to spine) and didn't walk right for 6 weeks.
Took me a long time to get over that when flying that kite, but eventually I got back in love with it.
Tide? What's a tide? Man, it's 1000 miles to any ocean.
I've had a couple of spankings.
The first was at Ivanpah flying a 2.5m Razor. Got lifted straight up about 10-12' came down sideways, my feet hit first, then went down on my left
shoulder. Broken collar bone and bruised right heel.
The second was at Wasaga Beach last fall. Flying a 3m Method. Doing a power slide in the buggy to scrub of speed before turning. Got lifted out the
back of the buggy in a big gust, did an upside down superman for 15-20' then hit the ground. Whacked the back of my head on the ground, cracked my
helmet, then got dragged farther across the beach, getting picked up a couple more times. The ride did not stop until a tree was nice enough to grab
my kite. Then spent the nest 2hrs trying to get my kite out of the tree. Was kinda dizzy for a few days after that one.
1st day out on my own after lessons . Sitting in shallows. Dove kite but was looping it so let go. I forgot to unhook from my ( old school ) D-loop.
1st tea bag, Grabbed the bar on the lofting and tried to push out. It was twisted on and stuck looping the kite. 2nd tea bag. 3rd lofting I try and
steer out but nothing. 3rd tea bag. 4th time in the air I clue into my bar being backwards. On the fifth I remember my instructor saying to get the
bar straight when in trouble . Kite will crash or zenith . It worked . Kite crashed and it all stopped. So glad I was still in shallows about 300
yards from were I started. Wind totally knocked out of me and generaly shattered I'm not sure I could have swam?
couple weeks ago 10mtr Frenzy 15 to 20 gusting 30+ coming in hot at prob 50mph to change kites due to extreme overpower and speed, hit a 90 degree
wind shift right in front of a small group of newbs getting their first lesson, kite reversed direction in a split second and lofted me crosswind
backwards 6 ft high and 50ft slightly upwind of the group, luckily. landing on my back and head the harness and helmet took the impact with no injury.
Packed the Frenzy and put up the trusty 10 Venom and finished with a smile. Frenzy is off to a friend and out of the quiver, reminds me of all the
injuries suffered with fb foils
about 3 years ago a lofted superman by my brand new black and red 4.5m Ace...... 1st kite flown from my 1st Pansh 2 for one deal..... had to go with
the Ace..... that 2m Legend was so small..... thank goodness it was winter and I was out on the lake with about a foot of fresh snow..... only thing
hurt was my pride......
and I think some might remember my first arc experience...... 8m VII......
both of those could have been so much worse.....walked away from them both...... newbie mistakes.....

a foot or two but landed funny and felt the acl in my right knee snap- that hurt surgery 3 months later and back to flying 3 months after surgery.
Got spanked once when I converted a 12 blaze to a depower and tested it before sending to the customer. wind was up at 15 to 25mph at the park, only
need to make sure it fly's and then put it away. Launched the kite and supermaned 189 feet, and got my feet under me and landed on my butt with the
backstop and trees dead ahead flipped the kite upside down and piledrived it into the ground inches from the fence, trees, houses. total distance from
launch to crash was 260 feet and only 8 feet of skid marks near the end. got up and walked away.
2nd event was a killing. 2.4 Combat lifted me up and dropped me on the beach. as I began my tuck and role the kite powered up at my tuck and rag
dolled me down the beach, wrapping me up in handles and line before i checked out. Broke 19 ribs, punctured and collapsed left lung. 6 months later
had surgery to fix the shattered ribs with a couple of titanium plates. Don't remember the 4 of July, Thanks Giving with the family, Christmas and New
Years. That was June 13th 2010. I see a pain specialist now and my day consists of Morphine and 7 other drugs to keep me from screaming in pain 24/7.
My hope, along with my doctors is that I will be able to return to work in the next 5 years after rebuilding the chest muscles and getting the
flexibility back.
All the major damage was done by my full face helmet, the chin guard was what went into my chest and did the most damage. Don't wear them any more.

I think it's interesting that the polls show roughly the same percentage of people that have been spanked is firly close to the percentage of people
who learned the hard way in my other poll.
Onthe surface it looks funny.

I was spanked at 2010 WWBB too. Venom13 with Coyote skates on the sandbar; smooooth sand and great wind off the ocean. Then a gust hit and I was
pulled across the sandbar, off the 1 foot drop at the edge and into shallow water between bar and beach. Bottom of water was hard packed textured
sand causing me to fall and then get dragged on belly through the water. Only a 5 foot drag but quick enough to get wet and hurt. Not the kite's
fault, just too little room to react.
I love Nahant but rarely get there anymore.

My worst incident ever was flying a 3.6m beamer on my landboard in winds that were 10-50. I know that I should not be flying but stayed out anyway. I
caught a gust during a kiteloop transition and Thought that I broke my neck. It tooks 6 months before roll a kayak again. I am more careful with bad
winds now, Water is much more forgiving.
one was a newbie mistake only a couple moths into kiting....got lofted about 5 feet, tensed up and pulled the bar in, but only one side I
guess.....kiteloop with the 12!! I think I landed still upright with a running motion in the legs, but was pulled on my belly fairly quickly, and
dragged a while. the dragging actually ripped my belt buckle off my belt!
The next was from a incoming wind front that came a bit early...but was really strong! That was probably the longest superman and longest drag I've
done, pants and harness were nice and green....but didn't hurt as much. Maybe learned a thing or 2 by then about landing supermans softer.
Resurrecting this thread as I'm trying to investigate wtf is wrong with NicS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s evil Rookie2. She's staying in the bag today...
1) Static jumping using a 4m Flux in 18(37)mph gusty winds (oof, its embarrassing even typing that). Lofted 10 feet after a giant gust hit right as a
jumped. Sprained ankle, wounded knee, couldn't fly for months. The worst is that I was showing off for a friend.
2) Buggying with a stock PL XR with the skinny axle and a 6m Cabrinha switchblade3. Gust hit and I thought, "I can hold it...". Turns out I couldn't.
Flipped sideways (easy to do with that evil skinny axle) and the buggy rolled over my back and head. Was wearing full motorcycle kit, so walked away
without a bruise. Would've been split open if I hadn't.
3). Most recently, killed my 10m venom, but narrowly avoided a total disaster through sheer force of will. If a gust had hit while I was wrapped
around the buggy, John and I might not be here today.
Always wear gear (Snake). If you haven't yet seen Kober's video, you should.
Mellowest OBE I've ever seen. Looks like fun
There were more than enough times I recall back in the old days when I couldn't tell a good park from a bad gusty one. Standing still off my
landboard, I was launched about 3-5 feet off the ground and sent about 10 feet downwind when my 5-meter fixed bridle kite was straight up in the air
and caught a nasty gust. This same thing happened more than enough times over the course of my kite career. Luckily I nailed the landings of all of
those incidents; it just takes some ninja reflexes.
And Proletariat... was all that damage at the beginning caused by the small impact at 4:00? If that's the case, it seems that it doesn't take much to
destroy a twinskin.

No that was just the final straw. He thinks that he did the major damage on a hard landing earlier and did not realize at the time that he had
snapped another spar ( final tally for him was 5 or 6 from three kites) and kept flying it. This was the nicest of the three locations that we flew
in two days and was still covered in "string magnet" plants (but not the preponderance of cactus, stinging nettles, cow divots, and cow pies that the
first field had).

I have been spanked. Before I really knew anything about this sport of kites I thought it would be a good idea to buy a made in china brand of FB 3
line kite with a bar. At first it was awesome but noticed that its cheap and does not perform as well as good kites. Then one one snowy winter day
thought it would be a good idea to try using it with a snowboard.Oh boy was not a bad bad idea. I go to a soccer field put my boots on, unwrap my kite
get it up in the air. get onto my board. I also had a harness on and rigged my own chicken loop onto this bar and the third line to attach to the
harness. So I turn the kite and before i knew it I was flying at what felt like 327 MPH. As fast as I got excited is as fast as I get lofted up in the
air maybe 10 feet.I come crashing down on my chest with the kite still connected and this thing starts dragging me while looping and twisting and
turning, there was nothing i could do. I had REbroken 2 ribs and was winded plus I still had this board on my feet. So I'm flying through the field
eating snow my fiance running after me screaming "im gonna chop your balls off if you get hurt" (I know she is very sweet)and finally there was a
fence at the end. Once I got to the fence the kite had gone over the top and dragged me head first into it with no damage thank god. So yeah I got my
butt whooped and from that day on I now have much more respect for mother nature .
Some of this some of that and a little bit of everything.

I have pretty well honed survival instincts on the landboard so have probably had less than my fair share of injuries. The worst was kiting on top of
some dunes in 30mph with a 3.5m foil. I crashed it on to some wet sand and without thinking hot luanched it right back up the middle of the window
because i didn't want it to get wet.
Got pulled from the gound about 6-8 feet and forward over the edge of the dunes which added another 6-8 feet to the way down - landed on the only rock
on the beach....
Amazingly nothing broken but my whole right thigh was black and useless for weeks - it felt like the muscle turned to jello!
I get spanked every time I go on the water because i'm always trying new stuff. I have crashes that would bust me up on land about ten times a
session! I can't see that ever changing because there will always be something new to try!
