The other night I was playing on eBay running bids up on a kite and some lines. I thought I was doing a good job of figuring average sale prices on items and thought I was clearly safe. Well, Sunday night not only did I win the bar/lines, I won the kite. Boy was my wife upset.

Well I got the tracking info for the new addition in the email today and it should be here on the 31st. I wonder how warm it will keep me while I am sleeping on the couch? I won't be running up any bids on eBay any time soon. Lesson learned...

Not bad mistake though, timing stunk. The win was a new 2008 5m Sabre2 and the 54cm bar/line set. Can't wait to get my youngest out on that one.

Oh man, Did I ever have that experience with my woman and e-bay! I almost got myself into trouble just like that. I can't bid either witout her knowing about it first. It's nice to win ,but yea the timing thing sux. (everyone) That is a prime example of being addicted! I hope you don't catch a cold.

You know, if they are nothing but standard headstones you would cruise right over them. Tombstones would be hard to dodge...I doubt marble gives much when you hit it. It would definably be a quiet place to ride.

Okay, I really am not a jerk....but it does make you think if the wind is nice.

Mood: chilled....but ready to SAIL!

[*] posted on 27-5-2008 at 07:39 PM

addicted, hmm ....

I live by the tides, the moon and the wind.

i am awake when the moon is new, the tides are low and the wind is up.

The last new moon i went out a dozen times on the atb after mid night for two or three hours at a crack as the low tide and wind coincide. small lights on the rig and i wear a beacon. i have ridden on the land at 3am worked a full day then on the water at 6pm then back on the land at 4am, then the madness just starts over. the longest run like this 7 days some water run didnot have enough wind so i got a triple shot on the land.
(during the summer season the beach prohibits sand sailing 10am to 6pm)

the solitude
the epic endless 5 mile reaches
beautiful stars and moon
head full of music
sweet power of nature

this not addiction
this is the priceless, timeless bliss of the FREERIDE

the skills and kites are tools to freedom.

it truly frees me from the madness of the world

addiction no

more like meditation therapy
peace

Why do you specify "new moon"? With lights and beacon, you could ride anytime I guess. Is the tide better and lower enough to make it worth it in the total darkness of a new moon? Or is that just how the moon was the last time you did this?

the last series of rides "the last new moon", a little light for the terrain makes it easier. the water line and the tree /dune line. the height of the low tide is never a consideration. running without moonlight, could i do it? yes. should i do it? no . you have difficulty seeing lesser objects (tree stumps, limbs, people, turtles)all which seem to be rare.

I agree that moonlight would make it much easier and safer which is why I asked about you riding with a new moon. More dangerous and maybe not as much of an experience, since you couldn't really see your surroundings. Yeah, you're riding, but you wouldn't have the same sense of speed or surroundings in total darkness.

with music i cannot hear any wind noise, once i 'm on a cruising line the perception of movement really falls away. the transitions feel almost magical barely even feel you have changed direction. the eye/brain/ear is really detuned from daytime riding. being on the beach with high frequency has somewhat created a wider safety margin. personally i am quite at home in the dark, rig, launch, landing and certainly riding.
the "new moon" meaning the "start" of the last lunar phase. thought that needed clarification
