Everyone in North America is welcome to join the North American ParaKart Racing Association at NAPKRA.org. It is free and your local club gets event insurance, a right to voice their opinions and call for a vote to make changes or to add something, everything is open for inspection and any information the club has is open to its members, we have sponsors that have contributed prizes for local club events that is ready to send out, the NAPKRA.org web page is up with a calendar for events, the resource area has lots of great buggy information, there is a pilot members list of over 120 pilots and growing daily, links to buggy event sites, other forums, weather, wind; the NAPKRA pilot member forum has a gallery, racing discussion, racing tips, racing events, Western, Central and Eastern Regions, with Local club, and the North American Cup areas for discussions on the forum.
NAPKRA hopes to be able to help buggiers with local issues as a group of concerned buggiers and not just one lone buggier. The association hopes to encompass all sides of buggying, from fun get togethers, racing events, training events, new areas to buggy (Mexico pilots are great hosts), 5% to 10% discount at select sponsor merchants, and on and on. Please join and help NAKPRA lead bugging in North America to new heights in a fair manner that all can be proud of.

Cinco de Mayo was great. We had two sets of very well organized racing for both class A and class B. I'm sure Brad will post the results in the next day or two, but hats off to the organizers!! Also a huge thanks to Jon Ellis for making this happen and to Above it All Kites and Ripsession Kites for donating the prizes.

racing discussion - napkra.org

Hey buggy racers!!!

We've been having a discussion on the '09 racing season over at NAPKRA.org Anyone that is with the club and hasn't been there lately should take a minute to view the discussion and add their input. Right now we are trying to get suggestions/input to finalize the event dates for next years season.

On another note, we're heading to Ivanpah this weekend to do some moonlight buggying. Full moon riding is awesome. If you can make it out there we'd love to have ya join us. This is not a formal agenda, just a get together with the Vegas club for riding. I plan on getting out late Friday night and staying through the weekend. Hope to see ya out there!

NAPKRA Course Setting

I've got to admit...I got curious about NAPKRA so I popped over to the website and had a peek. I came across some PDF guides and in it there were a few course setting diagrams. What sort of "track length" would be normal or is it dependent on the space available?

I ask b/c I think Paul and Derek and I should/could test ourselves one of these days as opposed to the hardcore fun of just random ripping about.

Same deal once the snow flies I guess......do they do snowkite races too? Same track setup? I guess I should look for a NAPS(ki/nowboard)RA website?

you field determins your course....just make a triangle with upwind, down wind, and accross wind reaches,,,races usually but not always start into the wind...

think ,,travel fast at a longer distance around the coarse is faster than going from one mark to the next...at a slower speed..

everything is race,,snow/land/and water all have races!!

What would you say the upwind angle would be?

upwind the greater the angle the harder the course...try 45 and work your way up...you might need more power at first, if you want to keep it light stay at 25 degrees or less...

try pursuit racing maybe

pursuit race....ok, the way I set it up.

step 1: ID your wind direction

step 2: draw out a diamond shape, shortest distance from upwind to down wind, Longest distance. 3 X or greater accross wind

step 3: draw up your race bracket....place each rider at oposite ends....that is the 'riders marS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-

step 4: start the race. both racers going around the same course the same direction

object: pass and beat the oponent to his mark
rules: downwind kite stays low, upwind kite stays high, and go around the outside of the cones
warning: kites are close and could cross.

make it interesting: make the down wind line longer causing both riders to push up and down wind harder

NAPKRA races this weekend San Luis Pass, TX

I just checked the forecast, and looks alright, except maybe Saturday afternoon.

I know of at least one buggier from Austin that will be making it. If I am able to make it, I will be there, also.

Is this something that people camp out for?

Also, what will the water temp be like??? Will I need a wetsuit to try some surfing?

I haven't registered, yet. Some things are still up in the air...
