My son Joey and I have just registered!
I'm not sure what dates exactly, but count us in.
Does the hotel code expire?
Will I have to bring extra tires?
Will Jeff (Bigkid) be available on the way down to pick up the new used quiver?
Should I ski on the way down or just get to the playa?
A few details to work out, but add a couple Wilsons to the list.

Colin, we saw your registration come through. Welcome!
The dates are March 27 - 31. It's front and center on the home page and registration page of the web site. You are welcome to come early and/or stay
after the event.
Extra tires depends on how good your current tires are and how fast/aggressively you ride. You can burn through a set of tires in an hour or have a
set last for years.
Skiing is good if you have the extra time. Lots of snow in CO and UT.
Jeff is not registered for the event.

Colin,
If you are driving through Seattle on the way down I am pretty sure you can work something out with Jeff. He won't be going to IBX though.
The hotel code doesn't save a lot over the regular week night discount. The saving is more on the weekends.
I would snowkite on the way down or home but I wouldn't miss an event day on the Playa for it? The dinner and awards night is Friday so you may want
to be there for that?
Great to see others representing the Great White North. Hope you make it over the boarder !

Colin, if you have the time and want to add 300km and a couple of days to your trip go east to Fairview Utah and snowkite Skyline. Macboy and I did it
on our way to NABX 2010 and it was an experience to add to the bucket list for me.
Have a great trip.

I am flying to IBX and must make a choice in packing.
My check in bag is packed. I managed my Coyotes ( wheels in carry on ) 4 kites and safety pads in just under 50lbs.
At this point it looks like I can manage the wheels and what I need to live for 2 weeks in my ( phantom ) carry on bag.
Having to pack light is killing me. I am used to throwing in every kite I could possibly need, spare bars, lines etc.. It is easy when driving to
SOBB. Fortunately packing for high winds is conducive. Living in a low wind environment I feel unprepared without an 18 or 19m + the extra bars and
lines that go with them.
Ken #1 is kind enough to squeeze my buggy in his van.
Fortunately this isn't my 1st X. I feel confident I have the bare minimum to have a great time. If I have a breakdown I'll have tiny tools and a spare
wheel for the Coyotes but will be at the mercy of the group if my old buggy or kite gear busts. Hope I don't have to go there but I am glad I will
have such a great group to back me.

Thanks Guys,
Steve, I have packed one complete spare wheel. I will be good for 1 blow out. I hope to think I am covered but if you have room and don't mind
throwing them in as insurance that would be cool!
Colin,
Thanks for the offer. We have a history here of people taking advantage of those driving down. I KNOW Ken 1 would have taken anything I left with him.
I just don't want to be " that guy ". I know from experience that my 18 and 19m kites would get almost no use. I would think twice before using my SA
on the playa if I wasn't sure it would stay up. I have had folks take down stuff I never used and felt terrible about it.
I am pretty sure I have my bases covered. I missed the last couple of years on Ivanpah and was just kind of in in shock at the whole having to travel
light thing again. My big adventure starts Tuesday!

Anyone swinging through Sacramento on their way to IBX? Haha, longshot I know but figured I'd ask. I am trying to figure out a way out there, but
won't be able to use the truck so it may not be in the cards this year. There's no way my buggy will fit in the car.
Looked into flying too but then there's the logistical nightmare of getting all the equipment out there.

Yup, I'm getting worked up. Slept for about six hours and then up and into my office at about 3:30 AM. I laid out and organized all of my gear in my
garage yesterday and now I'm thinking, thinking, thinking! I just went out in the garage and moved where I'm tethering my safety leash to my harness
(again), that sort of thinking. I haven't had a kite in the air for about six months and I haven't actually flown any of my primary kites that I'm
bringing with me as they are all brand new upgraded models of former loves. They've all been out of their bags and checked over but it just isn't the
same. That has me thinking too...
What can I say? You should see me the night before a big powder day. I'm 56 years old, but I'm still up at 0:dark:30, all excited like a kid on
Christmas eve.
One piece of good news (at least in my book). Some decent (but not too decent) winds look to be blowing into Ivanpah Monday. Latest predictions has
the 30+ mph wind gusts that had been in the long-range forecast for Monday now not showing up until Tuesday. Monday's winds now looking more like
teens and low 20's. This is a relief to me. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was getting a little "puckered" at the thought of coming out of the
chute and launching a brand new kite in 30+ winds (on the playa no less) after half a year out of the saddle. :o
Way beyond the fun of the kiting and buggying (which will surely be a blast) I most look forward to spending time with friends old and new. What an
event! A huge shout out to Sean, Kelly, Dirk, Brian, Mike, Bobby, Jimmy, and of course Morrie! Gentleman, thank you so much for pulling this
together (again)!

Hello fellas,
I'll be traveling to IBX as a first timer and will be bringing my 4m & 6m peak 2's along with my landboard. With that said, I was wondering if
anybody has any experience in regards to air travel and tire pressure. I read a few articles and people have recommended that I should partly deflate
the tires as the psi could increase with the higher altitude. Does anybody agree with this? I'll probably bring my electric air pumper as well.
Thanks.

Altitude can certainly increase tire pressure. It takes only seconds to reinflate so why take the risk? I'm heading down Monday morning and will have
an air pump. For the forecasted wind conditions those are two great kites.
Do you have good padding, helmet and gloves? As a first timer please know that the playa is as hard as concrete and as rough as 40wt sandpaper. I've
kite skated on it in what amounted to body armor and was glad I was wearing every speck of it.
I've got a hip girdle that I was planning to bring down which if you don't have you might want to borrow.

Then your wife will be selling all your stuff at an estate sale.

Mood: Get in my buggy!

So Day 1 was EPIC! Winds were shall we say, brisk. My wind meter maxed out at 53 mph and I didn't measure the strongest ones that came through. Lots
and lots of gusts in the high 40s. A few beasts came through that created "brown out" conditions and pretty much cleared the deck, much like huge
waves can do in a crowded surf line. I just made up that expression "brown out" but it actually works surprisingly well. Brown out like a white out
with snow but instead with sand, and brown out (Code Brown) if you were riding or sailing when it came through.
I made the mistake of not tying down my buggy for one of these (I was parked at base at the time) and it took off and went down wind about a mile or
so. Amy Alden almost caught it twice and a great fellow named John eventually drove down and picked it up in his pickup. Crazy day!
