If your still kicking butt while flying power kites when your 40 does that still count as a midlife? I started with powerkites when I was in my mid 20's, now I'm pushing 40 and still go go go.

Mid Life Crisis

I suppose mid life is about 40. At that age I was SCUBA diving and windsurfing in the Red sea out of the Magic Kingdom (Saudi Arabia).
I didn't feel like I was having a crisis, just having fun more like.
Now 24 years later I suppose you could say that I'm having an old age crisis. I started buggying 7 years ago and have been buggying every week (subject to wind availability) since I started.
Most of my buggying buddies are half my age yet I can run rings around all of them when buggying. If you have seen any of my vids (posted a couple on here recently), it will give you an idea what I do. Where I buggy in quite challenging because of the three dimensional terrain and in summer shade temperatures can reach 130°F. (50°C+)

I kite-buggy purely for fun & nothing more.
During my whole life, people have been telling me to grow up.
I will give you a tip from this ancient buggier.
Don't listen to such advice or you will grow old.

Thanks for the welcome guys!...:)

and Joe.....that's what i think about men and their mid life crisis.....I think it's psychological hogwash and a crock of baloney....it's not possible for someone to have a mid life crisis when they have never really grown up to start with!!......;).....the only difference is now you have to be able to afford your own toys!....

Huh, you guys are still kids,ya makin me sound like an old man at 45.What ,theres a crisis and no body told me !I'm still the only one at my town pool that can do a 2 1/2 pike in perfect form ,then watch the kids bellyflop the whole day trying to do the same.I'm not slowing down cause when your to old then ya say ,I should have did or tried that .I designed and built a custom recumbent and almost everything I'm into has to be challanging and different . I passed on to my 11 yo girl all my hobbies and found it was not wasted with all her freakin friends. They always want to join us .Mid life crisis,ah ,to busy to think but will say at all the holiday party's ,all I here is complaints about health problems or meds there taking. All the parents are yellin at me just like the kids.I can't picture myself at 83 kicking over a Harley or kitebuggying but will keep doing till I cant no more,I'll just get you 40 year olds to take me for tandum rides. What keeps me young is great company like yourselves at events like NABX.....Just got a Phantom 15 today to pick up kite surfing and worked out a deal for a windsurf board for this summer .Wildwood will be in my plans again this year just hope it's a bigger turnout than last year.Joe do I know you ?Do ya know Tom ,Andrew,Glenn,Al,Jason,Chris ect...Usually I go every year and stay at the hotel with the pool on the deck. They always yell at me for smoking the funny stuff that keeps me young, don't drink or drugs only "Natural" and the great outdoors !I might not know where I live but at least I'm healthy and still in shape.Power too ya Man !Stay different and go after your dreams bro ,nobodys gonna take you by the hand ,you gotta drag them to share the fun ! Joe ,will you be making NABX this year ?Bye the way, My 11yo will be driving me the whole time at NABX in a Mustang convertable !......Islandgirl, your so right ,I'll never grow up,he he. Is that a bad thing ?

hey Terry,,, Good thoughts there........... I am not sure if we met down here last year,,,,, We had a little buggy bash thing this past fall and there is a group of us that meet here on the wildwood beach... I live only 15 minutes from wildwood so I get to the beach pretty often... Do you know Brian or Don or Petra...... we have a group called new jersey buggy club or in the forum you will see the post under Wildwood Buggy Bash... if would be great to have you come down when we meet. Also Luke from new york comes down once in awhile.. he may even be from Long Island... I have about 15 videos of buggying in the wildwoods on youtube... you can check them out search my screename of "joecat818" maybe you will recon some of us in the vids or the slide shows.... you should diff see some familar places there......... As far as NABX... if may be a few more years before I can talk my wife into that one......... I am in the same boat as you,,, just turning 46 been buggying for about one year and expecting my first two land boards any day now,,,,,, got one for my 10 year son. He is handling the kite pretty well.. What kid would not want to ride down the beach on a landboard pulled by a kite,,,,,,,,,, beats skateboards any day.............

I feel the same way. I'm always talking about kites and letting people fly my tamer kites. Then it is "which one should I get and where can I get one from" questions. I guess you could get people involved in worse activities.

Well it's taken me next to forever to get back in here again....that real life stuff keeps getting in the way....:sniff:.....while you guys are off tryin' to work out whether it's a midlife crisis or just another stage of puberty....us girlies have to pick up the slack....;) but before i start off on my waffle....I gotta say thanks for the entertaining read this morning.....this is a great forum!!........and now for the catch up....;)

Terry.....our kids friends think we're the coolest thing since sliced bread too (naturally our own kids think we are old and passed it!!) but all are up for flyin' kites....like BeamerBob says......there could be far worse activities to get them involved in!!.....and i think you're right....it's the company that you associate with that keep ppl young at heart...ever notice how you can see some ppl in their 30's who seem as ancient as Noah....and then guys in the 60's + who can still be as giggly as school girls??......I don't think it's just a male thing....it's just that you guys are more 'obvious' about it...(and possibly it's just an excuse for us women to understand you men better...;))....eg....got a call from my sister this week....55 yrs old....never had a kite in her hands but has been itching to.....she's organizing a family outing this weekend solely so that she can give it a try....I think she falls under the mid-life excitement analogy!...
as for the youngin's....we have a 10 year old lad too.....loves the landboard......not the best at it but is certainly doin' ok and enjoys it....but then anything to do with kiting he loves....:P

Joecat.....hubby was ridin' at Bribie Island....in Queensland Australia.....which is where we are from....:)....if you liked that beach...there's a few shots in this vid of another beach that he loves which is up near Bundaberg.....beach as far as the eyes can see....;).....oh and as a bonus....this vid also fits in very nicely with this thread.....
