I live right outside reisterstown on the reservoir.

Anyone interested in kiting/bouldering/mountain biking please let me know.
Once I clear up a little bit of time I'm going to start asking some farmers off deer park about land use.

Theres some good open land in these parts

The tires came in for the the power kite club in WW. I am more than likely heading there Fri night and spending the day with the kids from the club Saturday. Don't know what the winds will be yet.

Southwest wind is a wierd angle to try to ride on. Might be really fun, but light at best.

Winds on sunday look much better, but very high chance of rain... Gonna sit this one out (already got plans for saturday). Maybe next time...

Anyone ever kite at Piscataway Park, MD?

Hi

First, a quick introduction. I've been kiteboarding (water) off and on for 9+ years, but landboarding looks to be a more viable option for me for at least the next year if I want to get out more than once or twice.

I'm new to the DC area, and in addition to West Potomac, Bethesda Antenna Farm, Colmar Park, and the Bowl (in Baltimore) mentioned in this thread, I was wondering if anyone has experience with Piscataway Park, MD? In the attached photo, the red arrow is the parking lot, and you can then follow the boardwalk (red line) to reach the fairly large fields. The trees from the Potomac River side are fairly sparse and not that large. I have walked the field, and it looks like it would work for a landboard.

I did find this reference at http://www.aka.kite.org/resources/favfields

"Piscataway Park Accokeek, MD
•Submitted by: Coleen
•Address: Bryans Point Road
•Directions: Take 210 South. Turn Right onto Bryans Point Road. Follow a few miles until you see park entrance on right. It's not well marked, so keep an eye out.
•Comments: Once you reach the parking area, follow the path, which leads to a boardwalk through a nature area overlooking the Potomac River. The boardwalk leads you to a vary large field, which is perfect for flying.
•Allowed: Single Line Kites,Sport Kites"

Any information about the field is appreciated. Has anyone kited there? Has anyone taken a board or buggy to the field?

Regards

JD

So... I've never ridden that specific field. Though, I do think I was looking at it once on the map. Looks like a fun location to ride. However, it does look like it would require NW to WNW winds. The problem is... we do not get that wind direction all that often. Perhaps this spot will get it more than Baltimore does, but there is a spot in Baltimore that is really fun on that wind direction... It just doesnt happen often enough..

Something to keep in mind. If things line up, maybe I'll make the trip.

Hey jollydriver,

No reason to really stop kitesurfing around here. Plenty of nice spots to ride on the Chesapeake bay and potomac. If you want more info the best place to look is on the eastkb forum www.eastkb.com. If your still motivated to landboard Lon aka Chilepin does a lot of riding around DC mainly at haines point. You can hook up with him on the Eastkb forum too.

See you on the water!
Brad

To follow that up.. if you dont mind taking a little drive, I have gotten out on the water far more often living in the DC area, than in my buggy. Of course, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to wind conditions, and I'd rather drive 3hrs than put up with gusty winds...

Still... if you are so inclined, we might be able to carpool...

Chesapeake isn't gusty the water can be choppy or have big rollers (my fav!) but its just as gusty as everywhere else.

Looking like some good possibilities of hitting the water this coming weekend. SouthWest winds all weekend in decent strengths. Anyone interested?

Probably still too cold for spring suits. Especially with the cold nights lately. Hard to call for sure. I was thinking about Pony Island this weekend. Will probably make a final call on Saturday.

I don't necessarily want to but your stuff, i just want to see what I like and what I don't. depower is the main thing i want to look at but I like fixed also. I would REALLY like to try a ozone manta and frenzy.
