I wouldn't feel any different if I didn't get to buy one. Rip probably could've sold all these quietly amongst his friends. I imagine I'd have been on the offer list. I think he was truly doing a favor to OUR community to get the message out that he found something truly unique and until last week was almost certainly unavailable at any price.

Well said Bob !

Is Rip' somehow stepping on your F'nSarc sales? Undercutting your spankin' new Phanny stock? Doubt it !

I never thought for a second that this was anything more than a favour to the PKF community? I am sure if Rip' thought for a minute this would be construed as commercial he could have unloaded them as easily through his shop. We have this thing called HST here 15% tax he is helping us avoid.

I just jumped through hoops to get my old Farc back I considered them that rare and desirable.

Suggesting that the moderator is playing favorites or that Rip' is taking advantage is insulting. Speaks a lot more to me about those that are complaining than it does make me think anything less of Rip'!

Yes you are right. It is a KITE clique. That's it other than those that are close to each other geographically. Just nice guys helping each other out and discussing a hobby they are passionate about. But then again, every once in awhile a spoiler comes along slinging stuff that doesn't smell good. All decent folks are welcome as long as they play well with others.
ideally, it should be that way........

This benefited me not one bit, and I must say. The fact that one simple douchebag came on here and stirred the pot was able to bring any question to this forums moderators ability to do their job and Rips intentions just disturbs me. If there was any question of this breaking terms of use rules then it should have been questioned from the start. Yes the validity of the question is acceptable but really why the hell not report the thread and ask the question to those in charge instead of attacking a valued contributor to this forum.

If NOTREALLYME had any integrity he/she should have come out and shared their opinion in a more respectable way. Unless they have other reasons not to let us get more acquainted with who they really are.

This is very easily solved ... lets look at the rule.

Quote:
2.1. This forum is NOT a commercial market place. Do not use this forum to advertise commercial businesses or services, link to commercial web sites, or list promotions or products for sale by dealer or manufacturer. Store owners may post private party sales in the For Sale category - items must be listed with prices. Additionally, we ask that discussions are conducted on the forum (in thread or U2U) and that the author adds "SOLD" to the end of the thread title once the sale is complete.

I don't see any conflict.
The italicized part has not been broken.
The bold part is being followed.
Case closed. I'll take my legal fee in FARCs please :D

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Back to the yard (closet) sale. Someone mentioned the "C-Quad" kites that might be in the far corners of the closet. NOW that is some interesting looking kite!!! Definitely an interesting concept. So, for those that have flown C-Quads, are they of use anymore or are the strictly museum pieces? From what I gather they had a pretty fair pull for their size. Also appeared that they were somewhat finicky in their flying characteristics. Did you like them or were they wicked scary?
When one considers how kites have changed / improved over the last 10/12 years, it is amazing. When you think about it, power kiting is such a simple concept it's a wonder it didn't start 30-40 years ago!

Nuttin like good ole wikipedia for a history lesson! It's hard to imagine it took so many years to develop from a curiousity to a viable sport. But then, Otto Lilienthal (1848-1896) made over 2,000 "hang gliding" flights yet the sport didn't kick off until the 1970's when the hippies picked up on the Rogallo wing (developed 1948).
I guess when the right factors come together all of a sudden it becomes available to the masses.

@ Feyd- WOW- no wonder I can't sell stickers to save my life. I once misspelled my own business name on a banner and no one noticed until my mom saw it like a week later. :embarrased::puzzled:

@ Rip- I think the venom bags might be more popular because of the logo. The "V" is a cobra and looks pretty neat.

-edit for spelling errors- I give up:wow:

As others I have no gain from this for sale add. I did post on it but just to ask questions. I had no intent on a purchase. I feel as others do that this is in no way a violation of any rules.
I also want to say that is saddens me that one negative post like this can send this forum into such a tailspin. Rip was being a good guy and it all got sucked into a black hole of crap.
If this was old jonesy or some one else with an axe to grind it worked. I'm very dissapointed in the way this is ending and I hope it all gets ironed out soon. I would like to think that we are more grown up then to let this split us apart. Lets change the attitude and move on in a more friendly manour.
We are a family of people who most have never even met. And yet we call ourselves friends. So lets take a deep breath and have a piece of cake and start back on the right path.
Ok, Dave.

What I think is sad is that someone asked a simple, reasonable question and everyone is acting like he kicked their dog. Perhaps he should have used the report button, but that's no reason for the kind of response that has happened.

This used to be a open welcoming community, now new people can't show up without being accused of being jonesband. People are suddenly so ready to assume the absolute worst about others and read all kinds of nastiness into their posts.

Not to be divisive but Maven, you were the first to use a backhanded compliment as a personal insult on kitee. Your other posts were high road. The questions weren't posted in an innocent inquisitive manner but in an accusatory tone bound to illicit a strong response. 2 of the posters raising questions were relatively new names here (or first post) so our suspicions of a troll were warranted IMHO. Geokite is the exception of those wanting the question of impropriety asked. He is a regular poster here, did so with class and without being inflammatory. If everyone had asked the way geo did, this wouldn't be an issue. So its not that the question was asked but that it was asked in an inflammatory tone by people we aren't familiar with.

Surely anyone concerned about this thread has reported it and the post isn't closed so apparently it isn't considered a gratuitous commercial post. So lets just move on.

I'm normally one to keep stuff on thread, and have carped to a few about starting threads in sections that have nothing to do with the subject. But as long as this one is so f'in off track...

C-Quads are awesome. You can piss and moan that they are hard to coil and bag, that spars can break if you crash 'em, or that you may have to do the walk of shame to relaunch if you botch a landing. All true to a point, but if you can't deal with that, you obviously didn't start out flying stunt kites. I can't speak for anything bigger than the 4.2 m, but they are really fast and develop great power through that speed; they depower awesomely on handles (use long ones for max range); and they turn quick, with a tendency to oversteer. Closest comparison I can make is to a detuned REV Supersonic or Shockwave, which if you've flown one, you know how quick those handle.

I am looking to enlarge the quiver, not just for novelty, but because they are great traction kites and really fun to fly.

absolutely the truth here...... i hang out at jamsession (a music forum) and though there are certainly differences there--i have not seen even one example of acrimony directed at anyone there...... i think some people here need to get laid........i say that last sentence jokingly of course......

Peter Lynn Venom 10m
Rides:
K2 Snowboard-K2 auto bindings-DC boots
GI Prodigy 2010 Gold and Black Vegas hubs

Wants:
A Machine that makes wind

Wind is like a drug: many people are addicted to it, too much of it and you could end up dead or in the hospital, too little of it and you\'ll go crazy, and just the right amount makes for a good time.

The bags vary somewhat in size, but any of them would hold more than you could lift or the seems would hold if loaded with school stuff:smilegrin: The venom 1 and scorp bags are the expandable type, as is the phanny bag I think, although I have yet to have a chance to unpack mine so I can't really comment on its configuration. They are all pretty cool with lots of important looking loops, zippers, and pockets.

You could always rip out the netting and internal bits used for expanding the bag and sew the zip shut. The other option is getting a fixed bridle bag - my Core has a very nice bag :)

... seem to remember the Phanny had an expandable bag too ...

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

I too have a bunch of older PL bags. If there are any interest I will dig through our back room and see what is there. I know there are some Bomba and Guerilla bags...I think some Phantom bags as well. e-mail me if your interested and I will see what we have. These have nothing to do with Rip's deal and I don't wish to hijack his thread with this post.
