Man, I need just a few more folks to chime in!!!!:wee:

C'mon Bob, 24hours in a buggy should be easy. You're sitting down, just stay awake!

Are we talking 24hrs or 24hrs nonstop? I would think finding wind for 24hrs would be the hard part.

What did I miss? What's up with the 24 hour buggy thing? An enduro?

I'm with Feyd, 24 hours of continuous wind would be tricky to find. You'd need a big storm or maybe you just need to live on an island in the trade winds.

They only put young people on the teams cause thats what us old guys want to see on the advertising, Wahine hotties tearing it up and living vicariously through the young dudes setting the bar!

Don`t think of it as if they are marketing to under 20 they are actually marketing to the 30 somethings by showing us pictures of our former selves. I would love to be able to 360 flip to feeble grind on my old Santa Cruz skateboard but alas my attempt at a mere heelflip in my garage last week almost ended in tragedy!

A memorable quote from dazed and confuzed: Wooderson Says: `That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age`

BTW 31 Here!

Sounds about right and is in line with what I see at the beach. The irony is that kite manufacturers still refuse to put 40-ish guys/gals on their teams, they still think 16 year olds are the target market for the sport... WRONG!

Update.

Sorry for the delay on this but here are the results.

The average age of all that responded was......48.2 yrs. Youngest was 11. Oldest was 67 (Morrie and Kazedoth)

What does this mean exactly? Obviously the manufacturers, at least those selling here in the states, need to rethink thier marketing? I don't know because I'm not sure this forum is a accurate depiction of the overall power kite market in North America.

I guess my concern is that on the surface this is a pursuit that is facing a limited lifespan. There are almost no kids getting involved? Again, not sure that this is an accurate depiction of the reality of things but I have an idea that kiting is suffering from the same lack of involvement that seems to be consuming the kids today.

Then again maybe young fliers just don't get on the forum?

Perhaps the sport isn't facing a die out. Perhaps the entry age is just a little bit higher than other sports. You get in when you have the $$ to afford it and go from there? Age range late 20's to 90's ?

May be that the younger set are all kitesurfer types on on sites like kitescoop etc that cater to the younger, more exuberant crowd?

This site very much seems to lean to the buggy/atb crowd which tend toward the older generation..

I'm sure if you lump the kitesurf only crowd in with us, we are but a grain of sand on the beach of kiters. Almost everyone is aware that kitesurfing exists but for the most part almost no one is even aware of what a kite buggy or landboard is. A girl that works with my wife came over a while back and my buggy was on the rack on the car. She asked what it was when I told her, I asked "Did you not know we did this?" She replied she didn't even know it was something anyone did. I imagine she isn't far from the general public's awareness.

SO, I'm sure our average age is a good 20-25 years past the average age of a kitesurfer. Am I off in my analysis?

49 years old. Started kite landboarding 2 months ago (former windsurfer). Can't get enough of this kite landboarding sport. It's pretty much all I think about all day.

Wish this sport was around 20 years ago!! Wipeouts and pain didn't bother me as much back then!!

This forum is very buggy biased. I think your #s make sense for what I see out at buggy focused events .

If you exclude Canuck and myself then I think the ATB crowd at events may average younger.

In general , even in the kitesurf + snowkite arena I am always amazed at the # of OG out there !

In general I think the Novice level kiter is in the majority on land ( in North America ). I'm just not sure that they all realize it ! Nice to see Flysurfer reacting to that group with the Unity. ( Me Want ) .

52 and still no clue !

Your analysis seems right to me. Very few people I meet undertand what kite buggying is. Boarding is not much better. OTOH, most folks have heard of kite surfing.

Kite buggying is just not big in the US. This is rarefied air we're breathing here.
