Gassing up the Kite Fort this week after payday while gas is still under 2 bucks. One year I paid almost 5 bucks a gallon before heading down there
but you know what? I'd pay whatever it takes to play at Jekyll. :cool2:

Just like to know what the tide times are going to be for the week while we're there?
Not sure of where to look for them either. Got a good URL we can access? Local?

Low tides are in the later afternoon during that week and they are big spring tides (with big moons) that should yield wide beaches.
Tides, sunsets and lunar data are listed in the schedule of events on the web site here...
http://www.coastalwindsports.com/JIBE.html#2
To further explore regional tides, I use SaltwaterTides.com. For Jekyll I reference St Simons Sound/ St Simons Light, which is closest on the
charts...
http://www.saltwatertides.com/dynamic.dir/georgiasites.html#...
By the time Thursday and Friday roll around, low tides are late such that the beach won't be usable much before 1-2 pm but historically this favors us
with sea breezes later in the afternoon.
Looking forward to seeing you!

Based on that site May 4th the Low tide 4:09 PM at a height of 0.3 feet
May 5th the low is 4:47 PM and 0.2 high and May 6th Low tide will be at 5:26 PM and 0.3 feet high.
If I am understanding that chart correctly May 5th at 4:47 will have the lowest tide. I think I have interpreted that correctly, but I have a uber
noob question..
What and or where do they get the .2 .3 .4 ft high tide info from? Can't be deep...

this might help you understand tide tables
http://www.wikihow.com/Read-Tide-Tables
here is info on low tide data:
Find low tide information. Low tide will be expressed as a small number, or possibly a negative number. This number indicates the relationship between
the water depth at its lowest ebb and Chart Datum. Because Chart Datum is an average, not the absolute lowest the tide could ever be, sometimes low
tide will fall below the average low water mark.[2]
When low tide is expressed as a negative (-), it means the tide will fall below Chart Datum. -1 means the low tide will be one foot below the average
low water mark.
The low tide may also be a positive number. The number 1.5 indicates that the lowest tide will be 1.5 feet above Chart Datum.
Remember that outside the United States these units will be in metric.

I read low tide Monday the 4th at 3:30 pm and 0.0', progressing to low tide Friday the 8th at 6:21 pm at 0.2'. This is for St Simons light just a few
miles north and directly on the ocean (just like our beach), close enough within a couple of minutes.
You might have read data for Jekyll Island Marina, which is on the other side of the island in the intracostal waterway. Water has to slosh around
the island and is affected by other things like river currents and the like, so the times are different. That's why I reference St Simons since
there are no Jekyll beach locations on the charts.
Tides are computed based on known movements of earth, moon and sun. Orbital mechanics and such, so they say. The tide height is referenced by either
the mean or average ( I forget) so it is not depth, but variance from average. 0.0' means spot on average and 0.2 means .2' above average. Sometimes
during certain astronomical conditions like a perogean spring tide (sun and moon are closer than normal to earth and everything is lined up right), we
get "minus tides" where tide is real low and it seems you can walk out on the sand bar half way to Portugal.
All of the actual tide levels can differ from predictions due to forces like storm surge, winds and other factors like shark farts and whoever else
decides to run for President that week.
Trained scientists can take me to task with some of these explanations but they are close I think.

Good stuff you all. Thanks.
And thanks to all those shark farts for what they do to our environment.
A low tide of 4 pm, then we could hit the beach at when after high tide?
I needed to scroll down farther on the JIBE forum for your great info Angus. :embarrased:

I usually figure about 3 - 4 hours before and after low tide to provide beach room, but that can be more or less depending on a lot of things like
wind, beach drainage and actual tide ranges for that day.

I'm thinking the later tides might yield better traffic patterns with the new hotels and all. A lot of folks pack it up around 3 or 4 to do the dinner
thing after being on the beach all day. I know the last day of JIBE last year was surreal. Everyone buggied up to the edge of dark because of the
tides. The sun was fading deep on the horizon. Everything seemed to have a golden glow.
With the tide tables this year, it looks like every day may be that cool!!!
