General NPW question. Anyone ever flown an NPW on a bar? I'm going to try with my 7M, as soon as there is enough wind, just looking for tips.

It's hard enough to fly on handles, a bar would be next to impossible.
You have to fly the kite with a little bit of brake to keep the kite inflated, too much brake and the kite looses power, no brake and the front collapses. Let us know how the bar works, might be interesting.

I got this boxof stuff from powerzone, and included was this de-power(?) bar. I thought to attach the lines as shown, and push bar away, brakes slacken, collapsing kite. Pull in just enough, sweet spot, pull too much, too much brake, kite backs down, think it will work?

Have you tried the kite with handles yet? I wouldn't use a bar to fly the kite, to much input from the bar for the kite. But if you get it to work, let us know how it went, might be a good read

Yes, I have flown it on handles, it pulls like a train! And I know I can just throw on a strop to hook in, after all, there is no q.r. on that bar either, just wondering about turning speed/ performance wit bar vs. handles, in the interest of science, you know...If I can get video, now that might be funnier!

please try it ! i am very curious if a nasawing works on a bar!

With my many years and hundreds of hours of flying nasa wings I have never flown them on a bar just handles. I would try one out on a bar if I could borrow one just to see how it goes.

Using a bar with a NASAwing is a cinch...providing you have enough helpful and knowledgable friends! :wee:

so what do you think the wind speed was in that vid? (25-30?) That was just HQ's 4.8M NPW5! Dragged me around pretty good at 20+! I'd better do my 7M in 5 or 6mph! and have the video rolling!

Looked like a regular 4-line kite surfing bar. Not sure if it even had a safety.

Think he was holding onto a harness, but I'm not sure.

He seems to be flying from 2 lines, there's an option if the d.p. bar doesn't work. He was going pretty good on those shorty skiis!

yeah, incredibly good for a nasawing i suppose ! makes me want to have a 10 sqm nasawing for those very low wind days !

Tried the 7M NPW 9 on a bar today in 5 mph wind. It worked, but I could have used more wind. Here is a link to the video. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual... There is also video of me flying on handles there.

I guess if you use a bar, you would have to set it up for the kite to fly at it's best with the bar all the way out and then the brakes would be applied by pulling in the bar. The key would be to set it up with the sweet spot for the kite with the bar all the way out. I will have to give it a shot when the NPW Goddess finishes my 11m and 15m, I can hardly wait, for the kites not the bar

OK now I have time to think (wow), You would set up the bar so you would let go of the bar to apply the brakes. The sweet spot would be with the bar pulled towards you, right?

I can make any size kite. Making anything over a 15 meter would be a big project for me. I would have to cut it out at a friends shop. I would think that you could fly a 25 meter in a gnats fart. The biggerst I have ever flown is a 15 meter.
