Jekyll Island and the surrounding Golden Isles Region is first and foremost a family vacation destination. Jekyll Island is a sate park ($6 a day
entry or weekly pass for $28) We just happen to have great kiting venues with enough space for everybody and kite friendly local government. The only
place we cannot kite is the south end of the island due to it being a protected wildlife area (plovers and such).
The island has miles of beautifully groomed bike and walking trails, and plenty of bike rentals.
There is the historic district with tours and shopping.
There are kayak rentals and tours from the mainland through the vast salt marshes.
There are Dolphin tours too. I don't know why they do this because I think that the dolphins already know their way around.
Horseback riding is on the north end of the island near the campground.
St Simons Island is the next barrier island to the north and offers lots of parks, shopping, fine dining, casual dining, etc.
Hope you can join us with the whole family.
Oh and remind me to tell everybody about the "Alligator 101" lecture on Tuesday mornings at the golf course. Bring your pets and small children!

Cool. Sounds good on the activites.
I'm just so used to dealing with a huge spring break type drunk festival everyday on the beach here that I'm looking forward to a better beach. Cocoa
Beach used to be nice. Now it is just a crazy zoo for spring breaker type drunk kids all year round.

Ahh, OK, I get it. No, we really don't have that problem.
When I first approached the Jekyll Island Authority (JIA) about the idea of leaving the buggies out overnight and having members camping out in the
parking lot to "guard" them, (this is what is now known as the "Kite Fort"), they explained that the little trouble they had encountered is maybe the
occasional wedding party that gets out of hand and creates some mischief.
Now we have the Georgia State Patrol fully dialed in with our event and they patrol the parking lots at night and the beaches in the day. In fact, if
you see their 4x4 truck on the beach during the day, it is totally cool to buzz them and out-run them with your buggy. They get a kick out of it so
long as you don't take out a puppy or toddler in the process. I don't know any other place where you can fool with State Troopers like this without
getting busted.
Alcohol is OK on the beach so long as it is not in glass. Only occasionally in the last 9 years here have I run into a drunken knucklehead on the
beach complaining about kites. In the few cases in which we have had public complaints about JIBE activities, the JIA has always gotten our back.
Mostly they get positive comments about JIBE attendees and how friendly and courteous we are with the curious public members that come to watch us.

One week from today they activate the giant Jekyll Island Magnetron to start attracting buggies from quite a distance over North America. don't try
and fight it, resistance is futile.

Angus is spot on here. Jekyll has the distinction of being the most laid back and friendly beach I've been to in the Southeast. Barring an unpatrolled
/ uncontrolled beach of course. Of all the rules that apply on the beach, they simply expect you to play nice in the sandbox. Do that, and you are
free to enjoy yourself no matter what you do. Dogs, kites, weddings, kids, it's all good! As it should be ;-)
I've enjoyed buzzing the patrol before, but my favorite buzzing experience came at St. Augustine actually. pbc and I did a downwind run from the north
end where some workers had been doing beach nourishment. They were heading back as we turned to go downwind. We passed them like there weren't moving
and reached the other end well in advance of them. The look on there faces was priceless. When they finally caught up, it was all smiles.

I"m sure it will be fun on a laid back beach really looking forward to a chilled out beach. I've become kind of a mean person on the sand due to all
the drunken/drugged up jackasses on the beach here. A few weeks ago evey evening for a week straight when I came home from work I watched someone
either puking, pissing or falling down on the sidewalk "downtown". Don't come to Cocoa Beach for a vacation until the city stops encouraging spring
break and out of town partiers.

Yeah bike rentals are easy here. You can even rent those 4-seat quad-pedal carts (with a surrey on top!) for the family. The island is virtually
flat as far as roads and bike trails, so you don't need mult-speeds so much.

First time I ever came to JI, my wife and I biked all the way around the island on the beach... It was a super fun trip worth doing again if it is
windless day... and there aren't any alligators on the marsh side :o

Angus and Sean. Eating dinner with the fork definitely didn't work so well.
Just whining cause I can I guess. The Doc said it has it stay on 24-7 for 4 weeks (with exception of showers), then can take off at bedtime for the
