Quick review with more to follow, I'm sure.

Epic day!

Wind at the start was out of the north at 12 to 15. Got steady throughout the day at 12 until the afternoon, then probably around 10 to finish out the day. Early direction allowed for some diaganols but there was plenty of beach for it. Afternoon wind moved about 30 degrees to our favor and allowed for longer rides with some going well into the wind while parallel to the shoreline.

In attendance: ACampbell, Tridude, Phreerider, BeamerBob with son Wexler, wife Elizabeth, and son ???, Pokitetrash with children (I think, if not, sorry Chris), and MGATC with son madkiteboy. Wonderful group of people and some excellent kiters.

Board and buggys ruled the day along with larger sails. Phreerider kitesurfed the morning at the north end of the island and land boarded with the group in the afternoon.

I will begin posting pics in the gallery. Won't get them all up this evening. It's been a long day. I'm sure other posts will follow along with more photos.

To all who could not attend, sorry you were unable to make it. It truly was a great day with some great kiting company.

I failed to do a proper note of a proper note of appreciation last nite due to the late hour and the long but productive day.

Many thanks to all who attended. Kites, buggys, boards, and knowledge were all freely shared. It was so nice to put real people onto the monikers we all use on the forum.
My son and I came away from this one day with more knowledge than we have obtained in the last 3 months at the sod farm on our own. A huge step toward becoming safe and proficient kiters.
Thanks BeamerBob for suggesting this event in the first place. Thanks to Tridude for providing the best location for the conditions along with local knowledge of the area. (Hate we missed the meal at the Crab House) Thanks to everyone else for the generous use of your sails and boards and most importantly, your company and the sharing of your expertise.
Hope everyone had a good day on Sunday and a safe trip home.

Till next time.......

Looks like a good time. My friend and I had a mini kitebuggy, kite ATB meet up today here in Cocoa Beach. There was 4 of us plus a couple guys with land sailer type skateboards with windsurf masts.

Love the pic of the beach with all the different kites set up. Today here by my house there was about 10 kitesurfers, 3 ATB riders and 1 buggy rider. Out of all those riders there was 1 Blade (me), 1 Crossfire (buggy rider) and 12+ Best Waroos (all others). Sickening.

For the people that missed sunday you really did not miss that much. The winds ended up being off-shore N NW. wind speed was not enough for my montanna 3 9.5 exept for at the beginning day. Also there was just about 50 ft of hard sand for bugging or boarding. But I had a blast on Saturday.

nice trip to folly beach ...great water session and nice to ride with everyone in the afternoon
water session @ northern point, 16-18knots , got suited and lit up on the V!3 great spot alot of short peak waves/chop and very rough ...off the eastern corner a nice flat spot the rest of the beach front south was shadow gusty side off . temp 41 degrees F water temp ? i did where booties. the area was technically off shore the launch spot was side shore only for 1/4 mile. started around 10 changed over to the V16 around 12, wind dropped to nothing bagged it. drove down to the county park to check out the crew and glad a little breeze had hung on as it turned to NE.

taken over the beach!

beautiful sunny day, warmed up a bit , ATB comes out for the dry cycle.

everybody's flying

everybody's riding

it's all good.

Mel, you made the same observation I did after my first event. Everyone wants to share their stuff, and their expertise. You are right, you learn so much more among a group like that than trying to figure stuff out on your own. You think you have it all figured out and then you see or hear something that opens your eyes to things you hadn't even considered.

What a weekend! Wexler was right, the conditions weren't better today as expected but instead not quite as good as Saturday. We put some miles on the buggies anyway though. Saturday was epic though. Not perfect beach cruising conditions but enough beach for everyone to stay out of each others way. Great kite manners and etiquette shown by all. This bunch knows how to handle their equipment. And SO much stuff to try. The day was over without getting to do everything I wanted to do. I wanted to buggy with the Montana, and an ARC, but it didn't happen and then we had to pack up before the park closed. I hope we can do this one again. Like has been said before, many thanks to tridude for his legwork and hospitality. He was most gracious and helpful. Quite the gentleman and friend. I always enjoy getting together with Tridude and acampbell, now phreerider is a staple at any event cooked up in our forming group. And now we have Mel and Josh that have the fever real bad. This whole group just couldn't be any better unless there were more of us. I'm sure whichever beach it happens at, we will be together much more as time goes on.

I'll post some of our pics tomorrow.

thanks Bob and well stated...............so many kites, so little time. As usual, ACampbell was there providing technical assistance and photos, as well as rippin it up on the bug. Bob and Wexler are always a pleasure to fly with. Phreerider, rides free and hard. Meeting Mel, Josh, and Chris put the icing on the cake. A few had their first Arc experience and I think AC will be ordering a couple arcs real soon:yes::lol: Big props for Wexlers 9.5 Montana 3. This kite rocks, somebody should gobble this one up. Pokitetrash, BB, and AC were rocking in their bugs with the Flexi Blurr. If I buggied, Id own one....schweet sail. Thanks as well to Mel and Josh. Love your 11m Neo and Joshs' MBS board. Josh was really crankin his transitions by dayz end and Mel (bad Knee and all) flew the Hyper Venom and ripped it in the buggy on his Neo. Pokitetrash and daughter in tow, worked his bug up and down the beach with ease using his Flexi Blurr. Last but not least, Ms. BB and Jared for braving the breezy, cool conditions.................great day, people, kites, and equipment.................

Maaan, I tell you what! I had a great time both days, especially with all the friends and kids; that's what this sport is about for me--It also helps to get a kitchen pass from my wife if I can do something with my kids! Yea, Saturday was the best time, but I can't complain about the flakey winds on Sunday because a bad day of kiting is still waaaaay better than a good day of work! Oh, and I found every deep tidal pool on the island I think.

Anyone who wants to fly at Beech Island polo field, in Aiken (Tridude?) holla me a U2U and I'll send you the waiver form.

Thanks BeamerBob for getting it rollin'! Hopefully see you Mothers Day. Now if I can con my wife into that-- I'll be the MAAN!

I still would have liked to stay on Sunday to play, but the attack of gout that took out my left foot Saturday night is still with me. I could not have gotten on to the beach and could just drive home with my good right foot. Sux getting old.

Had a great dinner with (most of) the crew Saturday night. Folly Beach Kite Jam is on my permanent calendar. Props to Bobby for the initiative and Tridude for the local intel.

[Edit] "Had a great dinner with (most of) the crew..." means some could not make it to dinner, not that some were not enjoyable. Concision prompted by typing on an iPhone can lead to poor phrasing. ;-)

The foils and ARCs definitely had air superiority at Folly this weekend. There was a guy that came for his first go on his 9m Eclipse inflatable. He had taken a few lessons but wasn't oriented on his safeties or his depower. Chris and I helped him as much as we could. He couldn't get it to fly due to not enough wind and was noticing Wexler running up and down the beach on his board and started asking questions about kite size and such. I guess he was wondering why Wexler's 9.5m Montana III was flying so well and his 9m couldn't be coaxed up in the air. He eventually got it airborne and got more familiar with it. Definitely nice to have "our" kind of kites dominant on the beach. Pics posted this afternoon. I'm stuck at work and they even expect me to get stuff done again.

Ok, I'll tell it like it is. Blimps suck. Foils rule. :wee:

Glad the guy got to see some nice kites flying other than inflatos.

Wish I could have made it up there.

The wife wants to know what went on at that beach... I limp home with gout, now Chris loses a gall bladder... Anyone else aflicted?

Please send my best to Chris for a speedy recovery.
