Thats kind of like asking how long a candy bar will last. It all depends on the rider, terrain and conditions.

I know some people who buggy at Ivanpah all year long and only go through 1 or 2 tires at most. Others can wear out a brand new set of tires past the cords (literally shredded) in less than a day or two.

i presume my healside tires would wear down faster but as i take my board apart on a regular basis for maintanance, the wheels tend to get rotated. ive never totally worn down a tire but i have replaced a tire for other reasons. ive had the steel rim come apart and puncture the tube so all had to be replaced.

the other thing is, how much grip do you want? i prefer to be able to throw my board sideways at will and use it as a break.

Ooh been meaning to ask, seen it round here but can't find it again - what maintenance should be done to ATBs?

i have cut them to the threads with inner tubes just about to poke out, i'll have to get some pics .

seems like tire wear becomes a real problem in high wind conditions and very aggressive powerslides at higher speed.

the more time you spend in high winds they just get smoked

hard pack sand is like sand paper really wears them. grass i think it would be less

if you have a light riding style they should last a year or two easy

i tend to bend alot of trucks so my main thing is stripping everything down and putting my trucks in a vice!!!
when re assemblying i also check pivot cups, kingpin bolt and rubbers. and thats about it really. i dont bother about bearings as i just replace when needed.

No lubing or cleaning of bearings?

... I've noticed the wheels on my Kava are looking used - hard pack sand ...

No lubing and no real cleaning either. I do repack my bearings with marine grease but I find the more you try to clean them the worse they get. Spraying with fresh water inevitably gets water into the bearing and brushing them off pushes sand in. I have vacumed them when sand was heavy around them.

I break my board down a couple times per year to clean up the torsion cubes and trucks and assure my kingpin hasn't seized.

I do most of my cleaning now days with a paint brush and vacuum and take the wheels out or atleast the bearings out of the hubs before spraying with water.

I'm not hard on my stuff much and my tires (buggy) have lasted a year and a half and look practicely new. I've got wide tires and usually go 20-30 and pretty much only pull sharp 180 slides on the hard pack. But I do brush off the wheels and bearing every time I go out; which reall is only dog poop in my garage preventative :flaming:
