Truck stolen - all gear gone
One of our locals posted this on our local forum.
----------------------------------------------------------
My truck was stolen from my driveway last week. Unfortunately it was packed with all my gear for a trip to the cabin the following day.
Keep your eyes out for:
Speed2 12m
Speed2 8m
Blue and Orange Rip 129 board
Black Spleen Session 141
#@%$#!ty old harness
Blue Toyota Tacoma with matching canopy, roof rack with grey Thule box
Let me know if you see any of this stuff being unloaded.

That sucks!!!! The worst thing is the idiot probably has no idea what the stuff is and will just throw it out.
Someone stole my kiteboard in new york and i found it 2 months later on the side of the road, snapped in the middle, it had obviously just been thrown
aside as the dude had no idea what it was

Looks like he had more gear in the truck than the truck was worth.

If his insurance is anything like mine the gear will be covered under his homeowners policy and the truck, under the auto policy. I wonder what the
insurance company is going to think about a $2000 kite

i was looking at a Titan 18.5m at the kite fest in feb. the fella (matt) had a couple other kites not too old FSs up for grabs as well. they were all
kites that were stolen from him then later recovered by his insurance company. he was paid out by insurance then, when they got the kites back, they
offered him to buy back kites as they had no use for them. he bought them back real cheap and ended up selling them RTF all bundle deal at the
festival.
iirc- he was asking 200 RTF for the very good condition Titan.
i just talked with FS Mike yesterday regarding something in a 10m (a'la Pu2
kinda of power). he said he had an "8m S2" :P and would track it down for me as it's on loan to an aqaintance.
he's also got an SIII coming to have a look at. i offered to help him out with some 'photography' work for him when it gets here:wee:
PKD-0.7m Buster, 1.4m Buster, 1.8m Century
HQ-Beamer III 3m
PL-Reactor 3.8m, Reactor II 6.9m
Ozone-IGNITION 1.6m, Little Devil 4.5m, 7.3m Frenzy
Pansh-Sprint Ltd Ed 5m, 7m Ace
Flexifoil-Blurr 5m
FS- Pulse2 12m, Speed 1.5 17m, lots of Revs and dual line stunters
Sirocco Sprint 4.2, 5.2 -SIROCCOx 5.2-

Theives - friggin bastards - I feel your pain.
the net result of my theft following NABX - it's under homeowners and you likely have a deuctable. So if you have replacement coverage it still isn't
exactly getting all new stuff. the basic idea is you have something that really doesn't matter what you bought it for - it's more about how much the
exact same thing would cost now or something comparable. Then they run it through all the tables to get a depreciation based on the age of the item.
Between kites, buggy parts and camera equipment I had around 11,500.00 worth of stolen gear. So my camera value took a beating in that you can buy the
same camera for half the price now and then take into account it was a few years old they depreciate it by a percentage off of that.
In the case if kites it gets a bit harder as they don't have tables specific to brands, types and some gear so they are likely to say okay it costs
2,000.00 for the same model but you had it 2 years so we'll take maybe 20% to 30% depreciation off of it.
Some things I got the exact amount as I replaced it right away myself, some things the insurance company replaced because they got a better price and
some things they give you some of the cash value of what they determine as the value and hold back some money. If you replace that item and show that
it costs more than the cash value they gave then they will pay out the amount held back. For me I have 2 years to replace and show receipts to claim
any hold back and for Jim he has something like 4 months from the date of theft.
I think the hold back was around 15 - 20% so some of the small items you ay never replace and claim that hold back but it is worth it on the larger
items.
The bottom line is it's a pain and you still loose some in the end.
Good luck, I hope it all works through quickly for you - if you have proof of what you did own you might find the best deal is to replace exactly with
the same model to show you only want what you had and this is what it costs and they'll cover it.
Part will be auto (on the vehicle) and part will be under home insurance (contents - ie the kites).

Friday night I had a radar detector stolen out of my unlocked car and my girlfriend had an XM radio taken out of hers. I live in a pretty rural area
and really never would have expected this. I had been leaving the keys in the car most of the time! Thank go they didn't take my mountainboard and 3
Accesses out of the trunk! They took the $100 fuzz buster and left the $2k worth of kite gear alone. I got very lucky.
Friggin thieves are the worst. In my case its the thought of these scumbag prowlers outside that bothers me worse than my radar detector. And the
stupid XM radio they took became worthless as soon as we noticed it gone and reported it stolen. It can't ever be activated. All you can hope is
that karma cracks up their kneecaps one day!

I got my buggy stolen off the back of the van, couple of years ago, in the middle of Seaside, first block of Broadway, WHILE I was in the kite store
for 10 mins!!!
IF, you store your kiting equipment in your rig for any length of time, GET RENTERS/HOMEOWNERS insurance. They will cover anything in the rig. My
company never even blinked when I presented them with an invoice for my Big Foot Full Race Libre buggy. It wasn't even locked to the rack and they
NEVER asked!
Well Worth the $150+ I pay a YEAR!!!
