Sorry, no GPS, Coords, but I had thought about stopping by Mojave to see the kite boat. I am leaving Phoenix late Tuesday, so may stop there to check it out. Still undecided I guess. See ya soon!

yes i am planing on going, i was just going to ask blake and peter about it. i am going to bring my board, wetsuit and booties.i assume the shoreline is rocky so booties or shoe are probally a must............aj

I have not been there, but I have heard there is a pretty nice(for an lake) beach to launch from. I will try to get more specific info for you ie: name of launch and directions.

Please post more information on the recommended lanuch area and camp sites (for tents). Loren and I are heading out of CA on the 27th and heading straight for Lake Mojave. We are going to kiteboard on the 27th & 28th then head to buggy blast on the morning of the 29th (or if the kiteboarding is really good we will stay an extra day).

Buggy-Brethren:
Lake Mojave is what they call a wide spot in the Colorado River, below Hoover Dam.
The spot you're refering to is on Lake Mojave and is called 6 Mile Cove.
It's going off when the winds come from the southerly directions.

Directions:
South on #95 (off the Boulder Hwy) towards Laughlin and Needles.
About 35 miles is Searchlight, a very small place at a cross-roads.
There are only 5 things to do in Searchlight; Go straight, Turn right, Turn around, stop and Turn Left.
You should Turn Left.

(If you went right, (across the Nipton Rd.) you'd find a magnificent Joshua Tree forest and then Nipton and the General Store and the southern end of Ivanpah - It's the best route between Ivanpah and 6 Mile)

The road to Cottonwood Cove.
It's about 15 miles and the road dead-ends there, so don't worry about the "Dead End" sign.
About 6-7 miles down the road, metal power poles cross the road and a gravel road goes off to the right, following the power line.
Called Powerline Rd. Go figure.
Turn on that road and about 1/4 mile is a Y.
Take the left at the Y (after the turn is a sign that says 6 Mile Cove - After the Y - Go figure) and go down the hill to the trees you see at the shore.

You may camp there.
But you gotta leave after two weeks.

The river is cold and gets deep fast.
No place for beginners.
The locals are passionate and have formed a "kite militia" to protect their spot.
They do speak English, however, and seldom practice ritualistic cannibalism, unless it is deserved.

You may feed (and refresh) the wild animals.

If the winds come from the northern directions, the place to shift to is above Davis Dam, just above Laughlin.

Always venture out well provisioned.
Full of gas, a good map that shows where you are and are going, plenty of water, something to eat maybe?

Cell phone coverage can be spotty in the desert.
I don't think they work at 6 Mile.
Let others know where you're going and when you'll be back.
Check in once in awhile.
Don't go alone.
