i am looking to get started into the sport, i was thinking about getting a training kite, or just going rite into it and gettting a kite thats like a 5M or something not to large. and buying myself a harness and just avoid the training kite to save money, could i have your input on this and also let me know what kites you think i should get or if you have any for sale. thanks!

Buy a used trainer and then resell it if money is an issue.

BBrex has some stings on here at a great price. You should be able to re-sell for little or no loss.

I guess the first thing that should be asked is what is your age and weight. Do you have any kite experience at all. It is a wonderful sport ( power kite flying ) but if you are not prepared you can really get hurt. Heck sometimes even if you are prepared you can really get hurt.

If you have no time or very limited time on any four line kite or bar kite setup than I would definitely suggest a trainer of some sort, you need to learn kite control and safety first and foremost.

As far as wasting money, if you get discourage by getting injured by flying the wrong kite at the wrong time than you have wasted your money anyway! Trainers are always nice to have in your quiver, in case you meet someone else that wants to learn. in which case you can show them how to fly and then have someone new to fly with!

thnx for your input. i have never been on a kite. i used to fly trick kites all the time. i get the jist of the kite flying i just wasnt sure what i should do. so i am off to find a used trainer kite. if anyone has one for sale at a good price let me know. i am looking for a 4 line also.

I saw that you asked about bbrex's sting, not a bad choice. My daughters first flight was on a 1.7 sting. she is 12 and about 85 lbs, the 3.3 would probably work good for you. Again based on your weight. Don't let the numbers fool you.I have several hq beamers available also. Mostly new kites, but I do have a few smaller ones that have been used for training others to fly.

can't go wrong with a 2-3m beamer for a first kite, if that's what shehatesetc is selling you.

I love the beamers myself! Nice all around kite, good build, easy to fly, and always nice to have in the quiver.

Well your talking to the right guys. acampbell and shehatesmyhobbies will give you great advice and if you buy from them, they ship so fast it will seem impossible.
Great guys and both can be trusted 100%.

I went for the 5m and got my butt whipped fast and often. Couldn't fly it much as I was terrified of being beat around. This came after a small P3 two liner. I had to learn slow because my kite was too big. The wind wasn't perfect every time I got a chance to fly so learning took way too long. A 3m would have given me more than twice the flying time.

If you can find someone with a few kites thats not to far from you, ask them to show you the difference. With help, a 5m could be in your future sooner than we think. But going to a 5m alone would probably discourage you really quick.

I was like you and wanted to get a kite that would save money by not having to buy another for awhile but it was not much fun for around a year. Finally I did learn to control it but so much time was lost. If I had done it right, I’d be flying depowers by now.

what if i went in between with a 4M? i havent rode these kites but i have the idea of how to rid. i used to fly alot of trick kites. right now i am looking at the beamer III 4M and string 3.3. wat do you feel would be better?

I always wanted the Beamer 4m and would still like to have one. I don't know about the sting.

Where are you from? As odd as it may seem, there's a bunch of guys in places where kites are not very popular.
I live in upstate SC. I have never seen another power kite in this area. But I make one of us.

Thanks for the kudo's. How is your son making out on the Ace. It is a lifty kite but a pure adrenaline rush!. Hope all is well down there! Our winds are hit or miss, but a bud and I got major time in on our buggies a couple of weekends ago!

Moser I just saw the 1000 acres post! WOW! I am on my way, packing the car now! lol You definitely are in for kite buying blues. You are going to need several kites in the future to keep you moving. Buy like most of us, you are not happy till you have a trunk full of kites with you at all times. I have an aluminum truck tool box on my truck that only has kites in it always, oh and some paper towels.

If you need more answers please ask! the flat span on the beamer 4m is 11.4 ft and the wind range is 4-27 mph.

That is great to hear as far as getting help from dad. I am teaching my 12 year old daughter to fly on a 1.7 sting. She is loving it! You let me know what you think. I am more than happy to help. SHMH, u2u sent, I need a box like that. We are taking a midsize car to the beach Sat for a week. 5 kites, harness, bug, etc, leaves enough room for one change of shorts, hat and a bar of soap. I might can thro in a few one liners if the girlfriend will ride on top.

To wipe down my face and hands after a good flight! Don't have to wash them just put them in a disposable bag and throw them out! Plus they are clean and dry every time unlike a hand towel that you would normally take with you.

the 4m is a bit big for a city kid, but for a farm kid would likely be fine. You can expect to get tossed around a lot in the beginning, and if you choose big winds for your first couple of flights you'll likely have a pretty negative experience.

If you can link up with somebody to show the 4-line basics (30 mins to show what might take 10 hours to figure out -- 10 potentially very risky hours as well.) that would make a huge diff.

btw, being young is a huge advantage! it's a hard sport, and many of us, like me, get into this in our 40's or much later, and you wouldn't believe how many more aches & pains you get at this age!

if your fields are smooth and rolled you've got a thousand acres of heaven there....

we have an open grass field that is 365 acres that is completely open, then we also have some woods then the rest is all cornfields, so half of the time there are crops, but when they are picked, completely open=)

You just have to watch out for the roots on the corn and the soybeans when flying in the crop fields, they can be kite killers! Sounds like you have an awesome place up there, where are you close to. Allentown, Pocono's, Pit?
