Awesome video of sandboarding, Have you tried it?

I have never taken my power kites to the dunes, but I have dreamed about the possibilities. I live within 3 hours of the dunes and am planning on taking a trip there this summer before all the ATV owners start showing up.

I came across these Youtube Videos today and wanted to find out if anyone on the PKF had tried kiting at the dunes. I am looking for some tips/advice, and maybe some "what not to do's" from those that have been.

Sandboarding at the Dunes

Hangtime while sandboarding

Also, has anyone tried to buggy at the dunes?

We have a place here over by Florence Oregon where you can down hill sand board (although they don't use kites).
Back "in the day" we were using dedicated sand skis.

I will have to post some pics of these relics some time.

Cool video. Seems like you'd almost have to do this with thermals coming off water, to ensure that you've got ultra clean wind.

Not sure I'd be up for it, but nice to see guys pushing the limits.

In case you've never see it, here's the legendary Alex Peterson in something similar.

Wow. I am guessing this is a rather unexplored avenue of kiting by the lack of response. I'll definately report how it goes after my trip this year.

One of those would actually be pretty handy around here ... my two favourite kite spots have soft sand and good wind ...

... although I got a nasty surprise when, after all this time landboarding on hardback dirt & clay, I tried to ride on a grass field - so-ooo much drag on the board!

What about using an old snowboard? Can pick them up easy for like $15 at the junk shops here ... $25 if you want bindings  what I mean is ... what makes a sandboard a sandboard?

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...
