Depower kite on handles?

Does anybody know if it's possible or advisable to put a depower kite on handles? I am wanting to know for my Libre Radical 6m. I'm kinda scared to be tethered to it in arizonas gusty unpredictable winds. If it was on handles I would fell alot better.

The simple answer is no. There have been a few threads about this that you might be able to pull up in a search. Even if you flew it on handles you'd have zero depower so what is the point.

Just go out in light winds to start.

ditto squared even though i've never flown one!

supposed to be depower is what you need for gusty inland windz, eh?

gusty winds can be frustrating.

developing skills to deal with frustrating winds is pretty much only done by many many hours of flying those [)amn winds.

have fun!

fly safe (HUH? in the gusts? what da puck you talkin bout?) but yes it does indeed get better with practice. It is the odd thing about kiting: the more hours you have, the safer you are.

fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....

Here is a typical day where I fly almost all the time. You can see why I don't want to hook in, note the wind speed and direction graphs.

that's nasty, I'm not sure I'd want to fly that wind!

also no idea what would help you... but with those wind speeds you'd be OK with a 6m on handles, maybe just need to give it a try and see if it helps at all.

not sure that kite's the best thing for those winds, tho.

bad winds do get easier to fly over time as skills build...

You might consider picking up a used twinskin if you are interested in depower but something that will help absorb some of the gusts.

I don't mind the gusts as much as I hate it when the wind cuts out. I have bruised the ole tail bone a few times and it hurts.

Looks like you're flying thermals, not so much wind. Great if you're hang gliding, pretty tough when you're ground-based. I get so frustrated when it's like that! Just as you say screw it and break down, you get a perfect breeze right in your face. It'll last until you get the kite quickly laid out, then switch 180 degrees and wad it all up! GRRRRR! Just letting you know you're not alone.
