homemade static kitejump video
should have posted this months ago, but finally got to it.
me and a friend, jumping on a blade iv 6.5 on a beach near HK.
it was my friend's first time jumping on the blade, and this session was when i stopped scudding so much and started focusing on the jumping.
no big air, this is all waist-high to chest-high stuff.
a bit long, music is chilled.
enjoy...

yeah, most of that was with the kite set for low lift, the winds were a bit gusty.
thanks...

That is the very kite I learned to jump on. I've been over 12 feet up with it. I had forgotten how fast it would turn. I borrowed it for a long
weekend beach trip and had to have my own after that. I still miss mine and might add a lifty kite to the quiver when I get my "work quiver" taken
care of. It is amazing how effortless the jumps are even in the low wind you were flying in. Nice move at about a minute or so when you got pulled
sideways and then turned 90 degrees and scudded out your landing.

Looks like fun. You could lay a pipeline in the trenches you dig with some of those scuds :o. I liked the air-to-scud combo from 1:10-1:20.
Kinda makes me regret selling my 8.5.

thanks for all the !
yes i love the way the shadow of the kite is so clear in this vid. it makes the interplay between kite and flyer during the jump a bit more clear.
another thing i like is that it's a lowish wind jumping video, not all that powered up, no need for much fear in the mix, just plain having fun with
the wind. not many of those out there.
the spot is my spot, been flying there for two years and the lifeguards haven't chased me out yet! a beach near hong kong china, about eight km south
of the airport there.
yes it was BB's ecstatic post about his first 12 foot jump on the blade that finally tipped me over towards buying this kite from its owner tridude
almost exactly a year before this video was done.
i'd love to fly the 8.5 now.... my ace 8 can be nice when the wind won't let use the blade to pick my feet of the ground, but it's a pretty narrow
window and it's way better on float and traction than lift. and i'm good on it now, but it took two months and relearning how i use the brakes before
i could fly it without thinking of driving schoolbuses.
in fact i'd love to have a go at 10 or 12 m (FB) now, but i understand that for static jumping those sizes are way outside the sweetspot -- those
sizes at those windspeeds just turn too slow to make it fun...
my buddy who also flies in this vid had been flying for about a month at that time, and those were his first solid jumps on the blade. he'd gone up
the learning curve really aggressively and was really wanting to jump. me, i'd been jumping a while but that can be hard to do for long without an
aggressive younger guy around... so he got me pushing my jumps a lot harder. this was also the last time i did much scudding for scudding's sake,
but that one slo-mo scud was a good trench-digger, for sure. nowadays if i have the power to scud i'm trying to get my feet off the ground.
a good day for us both.
@csa; don't know what you're talking about, both of us were smiling just fine!
yean, that 90 degree scud is a one-off for me so far, can't believe it's on video! my redirects are a bit better now, though, but that time yes i
kinda overdid it and sent the kite right back down and across the power window.
anyways, thanks again for the feedback.

great video. Looks like you could add a skim board and get a little different feel than scudding. The beach with that water looks good for that and
might be pretty fun, add a different aspect for pretty cheap. Nice place to fly

lots of people skimboard at the beach, i've not tried that but have done a fair bit of body dragging (only once with a harness tho) and paddled kayaks
to upwind beaches and flown them back down as well, also a few days trying to water start (onshore winds, blade 6.5, always tried to cut it up wind
too early, anyways didn't get up and stay up with that combo)...
yeah. it's a good place to fly, but has a narrow wind window. if the wind is more than 30 degrees off either side of SE i need to go elsewhere.
five minutes by bike from my flat, tho, so i fly here lots.
i'm leaving hk soon, i'll miss this spot that's for sure!
