would you say that 30mph is the personal limit you set for yourself on your 15m?

i suppose if i adjusted the internal straps and the VPS bridal then i could probably get 5-7mph more but 30 is the right side of my comfort zone. the
worst thing about flying in those winds is the crushed ribs which means you cant fly for as long. theres actually less force on your harness when you
are flying through the air then when you are stood still.

im not the rider at the beginning im the rider going huge!!!! its my mate mark at the begining, he's a good rider but still learning. he was on the
more sensible 12m syn!!!!
the protection that i use is knee pads, crash shorts and a helmet and i reckon the most important bit is the crash shorts.

I would've considered those winds the top end for my 12m Syn, but that is probably right when skill level is considered. It is fun to watch you Carl
since you seem to always be in control. Even when you end up on the ground, it looks like you meant to.
Could you do a vid sometime with the camera farther back so we can see what you are doing with the kite when jumping. I learn alot from seeing what
the kite does and the effect on the rider. Phreerider said something in an old thread about the rider being the pivot point for the kite and I had
never thought about it that way but it is a great explanation.

my philosophy is, no matter what you do, no matter what trick you try, no matter how high you go, you wont get hurt if you get the rubber down
first. it doesnt hurt if you just fall over and get dragged. you will never see me kick my board off even if everything goes pete tong.
ive been thinking of doing an instructional vid of how to do tricks. step by step, kite position, body position, landing, etc.

i like the kite action too bob althought i don' t look at it, but you loose the rider usually. super active flying like wave riding action with high
transition rate is nice to watch the kite action with stalls and quicker redirects and loops

re: problem of showing kite and flyer in the same frame...
sorry to break in but one half-a##ed solution is to shoot on a day when you can usually see the shadow of the kite on the beach somewhere near the
flier.
and i reckon that's the only way to do it outside of opening up the view, esp. for us using a fixed POV.
worked out well in a video of mine recently (not fixed POV but could've been) but in HK i'm a bit closer to the tropics, makes it easier to keep the
shadow near the flyer when jumping with the kite high.
i guess the only other solution is manpower, using two camera people and mixing the two, but i've not seen any videos yet with that.
fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....
sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...
also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

yeh, i was thinking several cameras and serveral angles and also using stills and just doing one move per vid.
ill do a series starting with basics then getting more advanced.
it'll get a bit repetative for me doing the same trick over and over but itll be a good teaching tool hopefully.

I frequently watch for the kites shadow to see what he did. I can figure what the wind line is and watch the kite and have a pretty good picture of
what's going on.
Phree I know what you mean about not watching the kite all the time, but I need to have in my head what I should tell the kite to do whether I watch
or not. We have to learn by experience but the learning path can be shortened if we have an idea of the process to begin with.
Everytime we SoFKA guys get together, there are epic shots that happen all the time, but no one is sitting still with a camera to catch the action. I
have to force myself to stop and grab a camera eventually. Usually at the same time I realize I haven't had a drink in 2 hours. :embarrased:

you've got some good online connections over there in the UK.
try calling for volunteers to help you out.
they could share some of the footage, and shoot each other as well.
it can be an amazing benefit to learning to see footage of yourself in action.
also it's very useful to compare the styles of beginners and the more experienced in the same video. the one can be an opportunity to see one's
mistakes, and the other can be a role model.
i guess sharing footage can be problem if you wish to claim creative right to every detail, which could be a deal-killer for this wee brainwave of
mine.:P
I've seen this at work in teaching all sorts of different skills, tho, and a shared learning experience is really cool to get on video, could work
with the right set-up.
just an idea... my 0.02 cents (pence?) in other words...

Have you ever hooked up one of those remote pen size camera's to the kite lines looking down at you? That would be a neat angle! Could be dizzying as
well.
Awesome video either way!:wee:
