How does pass the kite work?

I have been thinking about passing a couple kites around and want to know how it works. Is there a system in place so the kites don't just disappear? How do you keep track of who has it and where it is going next, if that person got it and so on? and one more question
What is the normal amount of time each person gets the kite for?
Thanks, Earl

start a thread like this.... start a sign up sheet, and get the kite in the mail... it may do well to just limit the number of participants at first if you are concerned about it disappearing... no protection, only our words, but i do believe that 99% of us are going to back that up... if i were going to do a pass, i would only send to people that i know on the forum....

i believe there was an issue once with a disappearing kite, but im not sure

it is generally kept track of on the thread that originated whatever list was created... if that makes sense

I believe that the only think that has disappeared was a pair of prototype handles.

For all "Pass" participants, I get full names, addresses (and mark if residential or commercial for shipping purposes), real e-mail addresses and phone numbers, including cells. I keep the list and mark it up with shipping dates as things go along, so I remember where it it is. For me it's just as much for matching up screen names with real names and keeping it all straight- something difficult for this feeble mind.

I also ask participants to chime in here on PKF to say when they got it, comments (review) on their flights, and to post when they ship; that way all that are waiting will know where they stand and where the kite is. I will also then e-mail the next recipient with all the shipping and contact information for the next participant so that they have what they need to move it along.

There is an element of risk and a lot of trust, but I feel comfortable with known posters here. With the exception of the occasional annoying troll, Darwin seems to have removed a lot of the jerks from our end of the gene pool.

SO now I'm curious. What are you thinking of tossing up for a pass ?

It started just as a generous offer by Davinch. People all wondered about this Pansh Ace buzz. He decided to pass His. Pablo saw the advantages to all involved and followed up with a PKD kite. PKD lost a good Rep. for their kites when Pab's gave it up. It takes some effort on the Passers part so hopefully they get something out of it. We ALL get the reviews .

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.

Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

Thinking about my 6m Libre Radical since I don't use it and nobody has flown one. I would like to see what other people think of it too.

YUP,

Pab's got a bit fed up. He took some time off and then got out of it all together. TOO much passion and too large of expectations, I suppose ?

I can thank Him for my being still. When I was ready to give up due to sucking on a surf board Pab's showed up with a hand out and took me on to land kiting.

Everything I learned about the land scene at 1st I learnd from Him. ( and Keith Kalio R.I.P. )

I too always looked forward to Pablo's insightful posts. I learned from him all the way across the continent. I can't imagine getting out of this hobby barring injury or relocating somewhere that you just can't fly anymore. The passion is just too high and it restokes itself every time I get a session in.

The pass the kite thing can work fine if you do the details like Angus takes the time to put together. Regular posters here aren't going to sully their reputation on the forum to scarf a kite from some trusting fellow kiter. I wonder what happened to Screwy's handles and if the guy actually died or something. I can't imagine just keeping something like that. I have a kite borrowed from Ragden right now that no one at my house would have a clue about if something happened to me, so weird stuff could happen.
