Wanted inexpensive 5m

Our youngest power kiter, a lad of about 13, is looking to add to his quiver. He does not have internet access so asked me to help him find a 5m that he can afford.
A bit of background, Roland first saw us flying last fall. He thought it looked so cool that he built himself a foil so he could feel the power. This year, his parents bought him a Prism Stylus which he promptly converted to 4 lines and made his own set of handles. Now he wants more. I think we all know that feeling.
If anyone has a 5m that is gathering dust and would like to help him out, (His budget is around $200 fob Vancouver, BC.) please let me know and I will pass it on to him.
Thanks
S

I realize they aren't exactly top of the line in quality, but there's always http://www.panshkite.com/ They've got that size in that price range. I'm reasonably happy with both my 4.5 Legend and my 6m Ace.

Is the $200, US or CAD?

Has Roland been adopted by you guys (i.e. is he going to be supervised while flying the 5M)? Would hate to see him going out into ballistic winds with a 5M and end up on the news. Does Roland already have pads/helmet?

If all that has already been addressed, let me know if this works for you.

Angus has a 4.9 PL Reactor (R/W/B). The current price on it is $280. I have asked him to hold it. If you are amenable to the kite, I will foot the difference.

Let me know which way the wind blows.

i was going to suggest my old ace 5 for free, but that reactor would be a much more solid kite!

is he planning on atb / buggy / water?

fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....

sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...

also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

Roland has been flying at GP under the careful supervision of his mum or dad for a year for a year now. Ron H has had him out in his buggy a few times. I think for the moment his plan is to fly static, but I am sure the buggy is a big attraction. He is a very nice kid, seems very responsible, who is trying to get into kiting out of his own, very small, pocket.
Thanks guys.

Did you want to go with the proposed Reactor deal?

If you need to check with Roland and his parent that's understandable.

Cool either way, just didn't want to pin Angus for too long.

I just talked to Roland and the top of his budget is 250US shipped. He asked does this include lines and handles?
He has flown TDMC's Reactor and liked it a lot.

Includes everything. Kite killers (HQ) are included, even though they are not part of the PL. Details can be found here:
http://www.coastalwindsports.com/servlet/the-575/Peter-Lynn-...

Seemed like a good match for what he was looking for, but didn't want him to have to pass on it due to budget constraints. Also didn't want Roland to have to sell siblings or beloved pets. That's why I offered to pick up the difference.

I expect that Angus would be shipping by International Priority so that shipping was kept to a miniumum. The larger Reactor went to Alaska, so Canada would be a relatively short hop ;).

I have left a message with Roland waiting to confirm his interest. It is an awesome offer Indigo, thanks. I will recommend he take it.
BladeRunner, mighty nice offer I will relay your offer to Roland via his parents. I think they should have a say first.
These kind offers show what a great bunch of folks hang out at PKF.

Wow...

I don't look on the forum for a couple of days and here we have a discussion about getting a kite to a local guy.

The answer to me parting with the riot would be yes. It may be more suitable for him (instead of a Reactor... Sweet in the bug but only OK for KGB) as he is looking to get on a mtn board too.

We could work out the price for Roland...

Indigo_wolf,
Roland thanks you very much. He would love to have the reactor. I just finished talking with his mother, she says he is allowed to spend his moneyon the kite. They would like to send a money order for $250 US to ? How should we do this?
Bladerunner can you talk to Michael about the buggy.

Sean,

You can tell Roland he can choose between the two kites... as he has flown both the riot and the reactor.

Either one is a great kite. :saint:

The response has been overwhelming.
Indigo you are off the hook. Your offer was incredibly generous, however CSA has said he has an old Ballistic 4.9 that he is willing donate to the cause of underfunded 13 year old kiters. You guys are the best ... It warms the heart of an cynic.
BladeRunner has kindly offered to lend the FrankenBuggy so Roland can try his hand at that.
Now if we can just convince the Richmond parks board to give us some space at Scotch Pond for gear storage ...

Sorry not to get back sooner; I was off the net for a few days.
Roland decided that he would not take a free kite or assistance from anyone. Not that he was not grateful for the offers, but that he wanted to do it on his own without help from his parents or anyone else. He was not looking for a handout, just a good kite that was within his budget. He picked up a 3rd Ozone Riot that fit the bill.
Roland has been brought up with values that say take nothing for free. He asked me to thank those who made such generous offers but he was unable to accept things that he did not work for.
It is gratifying, and rare, to see values like this in someone as young as he is. It shows the careful guiding hands of his parents. Ed and Roslyn have done a wonderful job raising a fine young man.
In the vane of not taking anything for free, he gave me a voucher for Starbucks for my efforts at finding him a kite. I initially wanted to refuse it, but he insisted. I accepted it in the spirit it was given.

I don't really wanted to hijack this thread and didn't want to create a new one all for myself either.
But I was wondering if some of you had a kite that would be suitable for a beginner, in 4-15mph approx, and 160lbs.

I'm 20 years old, living in San Francisco, you can probably read up on me through my posts, which I haven't made too many yet.

I was hoping someone would be generous enough to donate a kite they have sitting and collecting dust, it doesn't have to be new, I would pay for shipping... I am hoping to do some power kiting, as well as (I know I've been saying this everywhere on this forum but :/ ) examine the kite as a whole to get some tips and tricks for its construction to aid me in my Gual kite building Project.

Roland was out at our flying park yesterday with his "new" 5m. He was showing off his jumping skills which are greatly improved with the larger kite. He was also tearing up the field in a borrowed buggy. This kid is going to be a great power kiter. He is a natural. Watch out B-Boy, there is someone coming up behind you - fast. K1 was very impressed with his skill. He is a really nice kid.
His mum and two of his sisters were out watching. I think his mum may be a bit terrified by his jumps.
