Landing in the right direction after a spin... HOW???

Hey guys, I've been getting pretty good at the landboard but I have one mysterious question.

After you spin with a jump, I NEED to know how you land so your board is in line with the direction of travel post-jump.

I have done spins static, with no ride, and can only partly judge the spin needed to land in the right way. When I'm on a landboard, the slightest error in direction control sends me for a crazy speed wobble ride when i contact the planet again.

I could use a few tips on how to judge your spin rate for a good landing

There's something that I'd be interested in knowing too.

its hard to explain, you just kind of feel it. no matter what angle you come down, if you land back wheels first then you "should" ride it out.

probably not much help!!

same just like carl said

it's all about flow and feel and.... timing mastery

you gotta look where you are going

and balancing it all... power, speed, and balance on the board

ton off practice and busted tries

sometimes your body reflexes aren't ready yet esp. if varied acceleration/speed is in the mix

Actually having seen a vid of someone doing what you said, then adding your comment and some thought, that helps me. Get the back wheels down and you can easily rotate the board up until the front wheels touch. Bet it takes a lot of practice though.

Back wheels first... that makes perfect sense. I cant believe I didnt figure that out lol

Ok question two.

What if you get ur timing perfect, and ur in the groove. Then on one of your jumps you get gusted on the way down so your lofted for another 2 seconds. Assuming your still rotating, how do you manage that?

Talent?

So flyboy, I've been thinking maybe I should get my masters at UND just so that I can use all those nice open fields I've heard about :wink2:

And I could also use some tips on guarenteed long boost time techniques. When I do spin, its when im static because I get the most air then (and hangtime obviously). When I ride, I just get decent air but they are inline to my direction of travel and without spinning (just grabs and stuff)

I'm nervous to start a spin and get the old 270 degree rotation......

Hey flyboy,

I just noticed that the president of your club is from Broadview Heights, Ohio... that's like 20 mins from me! Any chance he is coming back to the area anytime soon? I need more flying buddies! Sorry for the thread hijack also, didn't really want to make a separate post just for this.

tucking your legs in increases your rotation speed and extending them slows down the rotation.
what i tend to do is 2 180 jumps not a 360 so the second half can be managed if something happens or tuck into a ball and do a 720 or land toeside etc etc it all comes down to how good you are and what you can adjust on the fly

That's brilliant! 2 180's makes a lot of sense. Still getting the reflexes to speed up or slow down the second is going to be tough!

I NEED to get Rip' pulling 360's I learn best following Him.

Thanks for all your help guys this will really smooth things out i think.

I tried the landing rear wheels first yesterday and it works fantastically for me up to about 40 degrees of misalignment. After that i chicken and kick the board off haha. I will experiment with the rest as the wind cooperates

Yes Jovver, I am the guy from broadview heights ohio (U2U sent), and yes Maven454, its worth transferring!
