I need a crash course in ARCs.
I've got a new to me Syn 15. I've had it for a little over a week but with being busy, wrong winds, and crappy weather I haven't given it much
though. Well, the winds are forecast to be favorable tomorrow so I just got to thinking...I don't really know much about these things. I've got a
couple of concerns.
1) I'm pretty sure I'm good with the launch, although any pointers would be welcome.
2) How do you water relaunch these things? On it's side doubled over and on its leading edge.
3) How do you self land?
Tridude briefed me a couple weeks ago but my memory is bad and I was driving during the conversation so I wasn't paying attention as closely as I
could have.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Clint

Watch the video 'till you can't stand it any more.
If using the sand bag to weight the upwind tip, make sure the tip is folded over enough before you put the bag on it. that way, when the bag rolls
off the kite on launch, it is UNDER the kite tip and not near the rear line.

Make note of which landing handle to grab depending on how you dump the kite. The landing handles are the red webbing loops at your outside/ rear
line leaders.
If dumping by pulling the safety, grab the handle that the leash is attached to.
If un-hooking and tossing the whole chicken loop and bar, grab the landing handle without the leash.
Then just stand and watch.
Good luck!

Clint,
I'll be in VA Beach for two weeks starting Monday so let's meet up! I have training during the day until 4 close to the north end of Military &
Robin Hood Lane, anything after that I can roll. I'm not a complete pro but can give you a hand.. let me know and I can U2U a cell number.
Edit: Why did I think Tidewater was closer to Va Beach :puzzled: Maybe swing by on the way down or coming back.

Definitely let's hook up. You bringing kites with you?
Tidewater is a name for the whole area...it pretty much includes Norfolk, Chesapeake, Va Beach, and Suffolk...AKA Hampton Roads. Anyway, Robin Hood
and Military is only a few minutes from where I work and just a few more minutes from where I live...it's real close to the airport. What kind of
training you doing?...Navy?

Great Video!!!! been looking for that for a while now.
Hate to hijack but it might be beniful to Clintopher too. But how come in the video's i have seen about arcs. the lines always come off when packing
up? any reasoning for this? :puzzled: or would it just be a jumbled mess when unrolling up the kite?

Most of the big kites with bars always seem to remove the lines ... I don't see how parapacking would be helpful with a bar anyway.
When you take the lines off the kite, larS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s head the two lines for that side together ... saves on tangles a bit

Me and Parapacking don't do well. Can't tell ya how many times i had tangles with my FB's.
But on the arc. I would just assume to do the same thing i currently do. which is wrap the lines on the bar. and leave the lines on

If you got space in the bag for the handle ... sure why not? I move my bars between kites so it'd be a pain for me
Man, you tangle a parapack then you're REALLY doing something wrong each to
their own

I often leave my lines on and spars in if it is just going in the car and I'll be using it again soon. I wrap the lines on the bar figure 8 style fold
the wintips together and just roll it up. The bag is designed to accomidate this. I only take it apart for storage.

U2u replied
I don't take the lines off my FBs but then the handles aren't 50cm or longer.
The PL arc bags I got and the Airush bag unzip at the bottom so you can put the kite in with the spars in place so then the bar would go in fine. I
never know when I'll be using a particular kite so I pack them all up every time ... I consider it my warm-down period :D

Oh a pointer I read on launching - put sand on one tip corner only so the kite can rotate about it to lie down wind ... works nice too.

Also fold the spar and put the sand ( weight ) on what will be the outside of the kite. This way it gets popped off as the kite lifts off. If the
weight isn't tossed a bow tie can follow.

It's in the manual thing ...
I think with the 04 bar you can just pop the safety. IIRC with the 07, you can either a. unhook, grab the landing handle and let go the bar or b. hold
the handle on the side the leash is attached to and then pop the safety ...
Just make sure the leash is attached to the ring, not the pigtail on the end of the handle ...

My bar has the option to do it either way. I was just wondering where in the wind window the kite should be when I deploy.

the best way to land your arc in low winds is to back stall the kite by fully powering it up then pulling in the bar until the kite starts to stall
and drop infront of you.
from this position you have several choices, you can just use the top hat and land it on the safety, unhook then grab the oppersite landing handle
and let go of the bar (you dont have to reset yout chicken loop after but you still get line twists), or as i do, back stall the kite, then fasten my
suicde leash to the oppersite landing handle, unhook, then turn the kite so that it is on its side, then let go of the bar. the kite should flag out
without any twists in your lines. secure the suicide leash to your board or any solid object then go and secure your kite.

or you could fly it to the edge of the window then just pull the safety. but make sure there is nothing downwind of you as the kite will then travel
from the edge of the window to directly downwind of you.

So I guess using the landing handles is practically the same as just deploying the safety top hat then? This should be done with the kite stalling at
the edge of the window, right?
Is the suicide leash the leash that comes with the Zero7 bar? I'm guessing not, by your description.
Thanks for the info, Carl!
