first video with my new HD camera and Pinnacle 12 Ultimate

doesn't really do the day justice. I'm new to the camera and to the editing software and lighting and wind conditions were not the best for filming. still though. I made a video. haha.

had a good hour of insanely lit 12m conditions. I had to come in because it was just too much power. oddly enough as soon as I picked up the camera it was like someone turned down the volume on the wind ?!?!?

me and my buddy alex rigged 10m's thinking it would come back up again but we ended up being underpowered at that point and calling it a night. Again, oddly enough it picked up after we took our wetsuits off

none the less. I got some footage. there was 4 of us riding and we took turns filming so i have footage from everyone. definitely a fun day. I wish we had more like this!

how do you like this camera? it was a tossup for me with this one or the sony hdr-cx100. i went with the sony(price) which is great, but have always been a canon guy.

great camera. the full quality video is completely stunning! vimeo doesn't even come close!

I bought mine used. it came with a big fuzzy external mic, high capacity battery and UV filter. I just got a lens hood for it and I'm thinking the next thing will be a steady stick since the optical image stabilization doesn't quite cut it at full zoom (12x)

i'm thinking about at some point getting a DOF adapter for it as well since I also have a Canon 20D with a few lenses I'd like to try out on this guy.

I'm looking forward to learning all the little tweaks in Pinnacle 12. its definitely way way more fun and user friendly then Vegas 8 which I had a cracked copy of for awhile but didn't like how complicated it was.

I'm hoping this is the crappiest video I ever make with this camera and the quality of editing and footage goes up from here :wink2:

yeah, that camera sounds great-but i couldn't spring for the extra cash as it was an impulse purchase. mine doesn't have an ext.mic input but the video quality is great. a cheap trick i use to steady any camera is attach a tripod to the mount under the camera and just let it hang like counter balance, you'l be surprised how effective this is once you get used to it. however at full zoom nothing will steady you that much other than being hard mounted. the closer you zoom the less effective I.S. becomes. i have used pinnacle before, but not since "studio7' their products are pretty user friendly. your video looked great, keep it up. look forward to seeing more :thumbup:

thanks yeah it definitely helped that i was buying a lightly used setup. I managed to pick it up with the mic battery and tiffen filter for just under $500.

I have a monopod I'm going to bring next time I shoot so hopefully that will help stabilize things. it was pretty clear out of the 3 of us that filmed that some of us had much steadier hands then others.

my long term goal is to pickup one of these in the next few weeks. they run about $90 on ebay. I have a birthday coming up in a month so maybe....;-)

try putting a small weight on the bottom of your monopod, like a 1 or 2 lb. dumbell plate it will work wonders if you are shooting handheld. shooting from the waist also helps things...
