DC Riders (planning)

If current wind predictions hold through Sunday the following location might be doable Sunday morning.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=38.873628,-76.981244&num=1...

I will keep an eye on the forecast and update this post if anything changes.

Too soon to tell.. right now Team HALFBREED might be in trials this weekend. I'll be watching but it looks like Saturday will be a small window for us to get in a session down here (if everything works).

I've wanted to try that area.

Wind predictions are all over the place again. If there is any south in the wind, that spot will be a bust... I'll check it again tomorrow and post something up before I head out of town Saturday... Stay posted....

Well, I need to sleep in a little bit. Getting up before 5:30 two days in a row has taken its toll on me (plus three kitesurfing sessions...). I'll show up around noon or so. Maybe closer to 1pm. Winds look to be turning more WNW around 2pm (according to wunderground). Anyone else who wants to go, you are more than welcome. I'll be bringing most of my kites, plus my buggy. Hope to see some folks there... :)

Shucks, take some vids 'cause I'm stuck here at the beach :P

Major, major gusts at the OC fest yesterday, I had the Phanny throwing me all over the place!

I was also walking (but not riding) the Wildwood shore near lowtide- it looks like one wide, smooth, clear, 4-lane highway ....patiently waiting for our coming defilement! :spin:

Aight Lad, I'll see what I can do. If the wife comes (she says she will), she will be on camera duty. If she doesnt come, then it'll be hard for me to take any, but I'll see what I can do. :)

Enjoy the beach. :)

With all the rain I am not sure this will be worth it. If the sun comes out and starts drying everything off, maybe. But I'm not wild about playing in the mud right now... Sorry. :(

Though there is wind at DCA, so there'd be wind at Hains Point. I find it hard to believe that there's no wind at Anacostia Park. And the tree tops are lightly waving outside my window. Ah well, I'll continue to keep an eye on it. I'm thinking that my flatmate may kill me if I don't get out of the apartment.

There's some reasonable wind listed now, but it's gusting up to twice the wind speed, and occasionally veering from W to SW. Since Ragden said that there wasn't a point to that location if there was any S to the wind, I'm guessing we might as well give up today.

I think i'm going to the 1405 showing of Surrogates at the AMC Hoffman 22... you are welcome to join me if you want... :)

edit: Yeah, south for that spot isnt any good... If it was SE, we could hit Sandy Point... but SW isnt a good direction... :(

I try to avoid seeing movies just after they come out, crowded theaters annoy me. Besides, with ticket prices these days, if I wait until things are on On Demand, I can save massive amounts of money that can be used for kites

Hello,
Recently joined the website, but have been reading up and taking your advice all summer. I got into power kiting this summer, much to my parent’s dismay, though they were my generous supplier for safety gear. Purchased a HQ Beamer 3.0 to start; that was not enough so I bought a 6.5 Crossfire. I’m now riding (key word...trying, have not gotten the upwind part down) on a Comp 90, just setup the turbo bar too. As you know living in D.C. the open field options are not the best, but found a few good ones; never thought about flying in Anacostia until I saw your post. If you guys do not mind I would like meet up with you all one day when you’re out flying somewhere around town. Anyways, just wanted to say hello and thanks already for having this forum, it has been a huge help (edit…*addiction).

Welcome to the addiction. I'd love to have someone to fly with occasionally. Are you planning on coming to Wildwood?

if you can make it out to wildwood this weekend, that would be ideal. I have been spending a lot of time in the water recently, but I'll definitely let you know next time I'm doing a land session. Would be fun to be out there with some folks. :)

There are some earlier posts here about East Potomac Park being a good landboarding spot in DC.

I wouldn't want to use East Potomac Park (Hain's Point) for just starting out. It's awfully small. I have seen someone landboarding there, but he obviously knew what he was doing. Additionally, I've been told that if you get your kite in a tree there they can charge you a lot of money for "damages". Easily more than the kite is worth.
