SOBB 2010

Alright, somebody has to ask, so it might as well be me!

Dates people! We need dates.

I have to plan vacation time, start stocking up on supplies (they only get so many brauts in every week at the grocery store).

I also have to start pumping up that #%#$%#$% air mattress now, so that it will be fully inflated for next year.

That would be a great idea, however, I think we need a different service then the one we used this year. I heard he really "Soaks" you for the trip.

Phil has graciously offered to have SOBB Buggy Camp again on Delmar Loop RD. If full hookups are needed , then the KOA or Fort Steven camp grounds are the ticket. Motel 6 in Seaside runs around $88 as Best Westerns, Shilo Inns and others run $1450 and up.
This year we will post were and when the pot luck dinners will be along with the location and times for SOBB beach locations for buggying. Keep an informed at SOBB.us or Sunset Beach Buggy Blast on Facebook.

What would you say, from past events, the wind conditions are like that time of year (on an average)? And the tides - how much runnable space (from wet sand to soft) at high tides and low tides? I, and a few of the Norcal crew are really wanting to come up - just curious on what to expect. Thanks.

Last year was my first SOBB. Winds varied we only had one no wind day. Most days I think were in the 10-15 mph range. A couple of the days the tide did come in rather quick. Long runs down and back are possible. I think it's about 6 or more miles to the shipwreck.

Even when the wind did not cooperate or the tide came rushing in, it was worth it. The after hours are great! The people are better!

If you're thinking of bringing Dino, tell him we need a Pansh! hehehe

Hope to see you guys up here.

It was awsome last year. No Cali representation last year, we missed you guy's. Would like to see all you guy's up here this year. We made a 8 mile run to the ship wreck last year. Tides are good check out Protides.com. Beaches are wide at low tide. High tide you want to get off the beach or risk getting stuck in the soft sand. Winds are usually very nice but Mother Nature is what she is we had 50MPH winds in camp with tents aflyin. Wind on the beach was good all the day's I was there. If you can get the time off come on up. It is not that far of a drive if you stick to I-5 and cut across at Portland on US26.

Been working on Dino to come up since last year. It would be freakin' great if you guys could make it:thumbup: Except at the southern end, I have not really found tides to be much of a problem, especially with BF's. Then again I suck and never use all that much beach anyway;) I don't think there would be any shortage of people willing to receive shipped gear, if that would make travel arrangements easier.

These tides are close enuf :) http://www.cannonbeach.org/tides/sept-tide-table.htm

Good wind typically is in the late morning until dinner. I find 8-15 is average, but realisticlly it will probalby vary between 5 and 35 :D You really can't predict! In terms of kite size, I find that a fixed 3m and 5-7m or equiv cover me. But the wind is pretty consistent throughout the day so don't expect gusty inland junk, right macboy ;)

The first week is mid tides in the afternoon and the second half is high tides in the afternoon. With the mid tides it'll be damp hard pack and plenty of room to build up good speed. Plenty of room for freestyle, but better for crooZing or speed runs.

The second half will bring exceptionally high tides in the afternoon we'll either be chased off the beach in the afternoon or will be riding more towards the soft dry sand. 8.5 ft tides at 2-3pm is pretty insane. Did you mean to do this Jon :) But with the very high tides comes very low tides in the morning. On the off chance we get good morning before 10am, then there'll be a nice big hard pack playground!

Yes I am missing a side rail that I loaned to Bill until his comes in from Libre. It is a beach to lose stuff in shipping from Louisiana. I still have the Hardcore Bigfoot suspension buggy ready for SOBB.
