First off, this is simply an amazing kite. Beautiful out of the bag, and ready to rock.
When I pulled up to Kite Point, in the OuterBanks, the only kite flying was a Speed 2 15m SA. I recognized the kite from almost a mile out and thought
it might be a buddy from Delaware, but found it very quickly it was another guy I knew from Ithica. He came in, landed his kite and give ma quick hand
getting mine launched.
It took just a minute to get all the cells inflated, but came off the ground while only half inflated. Not a lot of pull initially, but she inflated
quickly, and it was apparent, almost immediately that she was going to have a lot of pull. Winds were approximately 10mph (there was a guy with a
windmeter standing there shaking his head with his inflated 14m LEI). I grabbed my big board and headed out into the water.
Had to dive her twice to get myself up on the board, but then it was smooth sailing. This kite is all about the apparent wind. She sailed quickly and
smoothly to the edge of the wind, and started cranking upwind. The turning speed on this kite was awe-inspiring. It turned as fast, if not faster,
than my 11m TD2.
When the wind got up to 15mph, I went in, grabbed my smaller board, and went right back out. That was really fun. I never felt overpowered, my legs
were just sore from the amount of water the bigger board was throwing. Got a couple little boosts with the kite, with nice floating landings.
I did crash the kite twice. Once with the leading egde down. As soon as it was on the water, I grabbed a brake line and the kite jumped off the water.
It relaunched faster then my TD2! I was so surprised that I just stood there like a knucklehead getting dragged downwind. Then I came to my senses and
went looking for my board. Second time, the kite hit the water funky, and started to fold up on itself. I gave the center lines a tug to give her some
form, then grabbed a brake line, and it popped off the water again. What I thought was going to turn into a complete mess and walk in to the beach
cleared up in moments, and I was back up and riding in no time.
All in all, this is truely an amazing kite. I cannot wait for another opportunity to fly it again. If you get the chance, give this kite a shot. You
will not be disappointed.
