So i finally was able to use my new mbs core 16 for the first time yesterday after a week of it just sitting in my garage without wind. I was really excited to get rolling first go, but i ran into a little problem when i reached the other side of the field. I live inland and there is lots of neighborhoods and hills nereby. The wind was strong around 20 or so, i thought that it would be a great day to learn on the new board. I was soo wrong.

When i reached the far side of the field after the first run, the scorpion grabbed a pocket of air which was moving in a different direction and i was whipped into a dirt dive hitting my face on the end of the control bar. it was funny because i didn't get hurt. I got back up and rolled the opposite way. Everytime i came back to that spot the wind changed directions. I think the houses that met the edge of the field were causing some sort of wind swirl. The next few times i moved close to that spot i was lofted up and carried downfield, a few times with the board and a few times without the board. I started to get really mad and jealous of those riders who get the perfect smooth breezes from the beach without any obstacles to skew the wind and create weird patterns and turbulence.

After that, i kept away from the spot. After a while i started my jumps before i got to that pocket of air. Once or twice i was jumping so far that i caught the turbulence and i traveled so far and close to someones yard/fence. I was so close that my kite was over the top of their yard and house. It was really fun and scary at the same time. I had to loosen up my trucks when i got home because they were stiff and didn't want to turn sharp enough for me, which made the new experience not as enjoyable as it could have been. I still had fun and learned a few things on the new board which made my day

I can't wait for good clean winds and an open field. Learning new tricks has got to be alot easier when you don't have to worry about crazy inland turbulence

Inland winds SUCK!

inlands take some getting used to... but some wind is better than no wind! Trust me, you cant get much more inland than Nebraska

I hear you - trying to learn to landboard on a gusty day is brutal. I bet you had a secret audience of people looking out their windows wondering "when is this kid going to crash into my fence.." lol

I hear you. My best inland sessions are near worthless compared to an so-so beach one. I can't help but envy all those UK kids on YouTube who jump, board and buggy on those highlands near the water.

You need to be very aware of what is down wind of you. It soulds like you could have gotten into some trouble if you had to land the kite or a gust took you over the houses.

I hope that you are wearing safty gear also.

Yeah, the houses are not downwind but perpendicular to the wind window, I was just getting good long jumps and float time which carried me farther sideways. Safety gear and all that is in check and I've practiced with it as well. I've seen too many crashes on YouTube to be that careless.
