Depower's - Advice on selecting
Well, while reading the Charger topic, I made an unfortunate, but need choice/discovery. The money I have been saving, isn't gonna cut it for a new
12m Charger.
What I figure is, for the price of the new RTF Charger, I could get a used RTF 12m Synergy, and a possible 18-19m KO older Arc and cover a much larger
wind range.
I live in ABQ, NM so the winds are almost guaranteed gusty, so I assumed an Arc would be optimum. But if the HQ Neo's or Flysurfers are any good I
might consider that too.
Opinions?
Thanks,
Brian

Flysurfers always seem to hold their value ... you'll be lucky to get a cheap one, even used ...
My thought is always that, at this level of the game, I'm such a noob that I wouldn't notice the difference between a Charger, a Synergy or a Venom
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Kamikuza, you're still a noob even with all those kites you have pictured? Are you sure you should still be flying?

I hear yah on that one, I probably won't notice either.
Its also that I have been itching to get flying on something bigger for a while now, the Charger really lost its appeal about a week and a half ago
and I have got to buy something!!!
So my first want is a 12m Synergy RTF. If i get that, can I use its lines and bar to fly a larger Arc too?
Not sure if any of the dealers have any good deals on some of the closeout Synergys? Let me know.

this is just my opinion, but why not buy a used LEI for around 350 or 400, i landboardboard in gusty inland conditions all the time and my 12 meter
havoc just eats up the gusts and lulls for breakfast. My back yard is about 3 acres so when i fly directly behind the house the wind totally cuts off
and she just sails through the dead wind to the other side where the wind turns back on. I bet you a million bucks any foil would shart in its pants
in those conditions. Foils are for the sea breeze. Thats just how it is. Its how the cookie crumbles.

Well I'm working on a 15m Syn deal, seems like a good kite since I dont have a ton of cash.
Seems to be the "1 kite-quiver" type kite from what I have heard and seen.
Plus I'm tired of having no float when that damn Twister II launches me

I realize you later said that you were going for a 15m Syn, but I still feel I should point this out. Larger arcs are really for heavier guys, not
lower winds. There's some improvement on the bottom end with a larger arc, but not nearly what you get when foils go up in size.

I think he's showing the irony of you putting down foils while getting yourself arguably the lowest quality depower foil on the market. I can vouch
for both tridudes skills and knowledge of all type kites. I am sure I've learned more about kites and their flight from him than just about any other
person except Angus. He's owned and flown a host of fixed bridle and depower foils, inflatables, and arcs. He's been there and done that and can
make it happen on the beach or a grassy inland field. He also has a way of saying exactly what's on his mind. He DID use smiley faces.

the Syn 15 is the allround size, but there are some days, i'd like a 12m for the extra speed in turns.
if you bought a used Syn 15 with bars and lines you can use your 60cm bar on anything bigger or smaller. on smaller arcs it will turn faster.
lots of new (discounts going right now) / used Syn 12 still around, but no more NEW Syn 15m
with the neo II coming soon, you could get a wicked deal on the Neo I too.

Thanks for the advice guys, I am really feeling the Synergy 15m for a couple reasons.
I weigh in at bout 140ish pounds and plan on using it in some continuously gusty winds, also for a while it will be my only water and land kite, since
we do have some lakes around here, but I havent had the time to drive out there.
Also with what rip said about the bar and line, it would be nice to have a set i could use on multiple kites, since the cash income of a high schooler
isnt a whole lot.
Thanks

Not that I know much about arcs, but I would think a 15m would be a bit big for someone in your weight bracket. I could be very wrong though... Just

I weigh 150lb and I was trying to make the exact same decision (12m vs 15m Syn). I opted for the 12m. It didn't seem like the 15m had that much more
low end (only 3 mph according to PL) and I decided that since it was my first arc that the 12 would be a little easier to handle. Also my focus with
it is going to be snow and land so I should need less power. Its a tough call though.
Can anyone remind how an arc compares to a foil like a Frenzy, size wise? I'm hoping that the 12m is equal to about a 10m foil size wise.

I hear you. I just secured my 15m Syn . I have NO regrets with this kite and am a firm believer in buying the model that proved itself last year . It
wasn't exactly a one kite quiver but it has the jumping qualities I needed.
I'm still in line for a charger. I will go for a 19 if it truly can handle our low wind. If not it will be a 10 Charger .and a Silver Arrow.
Unfortunately you will need something for both ends. Rip will have a 15m Charger so we can swap while I decide on that size.
Right now my 2.5 and 9m fixed bridles have been covering the outsides.
I think we need a Charger Silver Arrow

Maybe not even that. It's projected area is just over 7. That 12 has blistering turn speed though and that makes power.

Well the projected area of the 12m Syn is 7.4. The Frenzy is 7.1 for the 9m and 8.0 for the 11m.
So if its all about projected area it seems like the 12m Synergy should be between a 9 and 10m depower foil, shouldn't it?

The 12m Syn should match up pretty close with the Montana 9.5m in projected area but the 12m synergy probably has 10-15 knots more top end but misses
3-5 knots on low end to the 9.5m Montana. I compare to the Montana since that is where my experience is. I don't have more than an hour on a frenzy.
The sweet spot for the syn 12 is going to be higher than the sweet spot on the 9-10m foil dp.
