Tennis elbow anyone ?
I have had a pain in my elbow for about a month. Not too bad but I mentioned it to the Doc when in for my flu shot.
It is tennis elbow and I wonder what set it off ? It was irritated after the couple of decent sessions lately but I don't think my kiting is the cause
? I moved to a new bike after not riding all summer and think it may be from it ???
Anybody out there with tennis elbow related to their kiting ? :puzzled:

I do get some elbow related pain from buggying, but I think mine is caused by work more than kiting. But it makes the pain come back after a good
session. Maybe if I flew hooked in it would eliminate some of the pain. Either way I just work through it, it's worth it in the end.
You are not alone! Some would say it's an "age thing"

Used to get it in my left elbow ... I'm right handed :ticking: I figured it was because I was letting the kite pull my arms completely straight,
especially when I was waiting out gusts with the kite at zenith - oh this is on handles by the way.
Made sure I kept a little bend in the elbows - no problems since
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

I'm with you!
Part is age related, part is activity related. On the activity front - I got it back when I started rock climbing and the cause was the fact that your
tendons take significantly longer to develop / adjust to activity than the muscles used for those activities. It took my breath away.
It's since persisted presumably due to age but I've found relief in flax seed. My wife sold it at the local farmer's market for a Saskatchewan farmer
and it's become part of our everyday life. It's kinda a miracle food but definitely something you have to commit to to see the benefits. If I go off
it for a few weeks I'll start getting the pain again. I swear - it helps!
As a bonus the flax does all kinds of other amazing things. (And no, we're not affiliated at all....we pay for it just like everyone else.)

I used to get tennis elbow as well when i was using peter lynn kites only though, because the throw is long and the bar pressure feels huge to me and
i think my arms are pathetic or something, used to get really bad tennis elbow using my venom. Never get it on any other kites i've flown though,
think my body just doesn't work well with arcs :D

Don't worry, you're turn is coming shaggs!
I used to think i was invincible 20 years ago, but years of paddling, mountain biking and now kiting are now telling me otherwise. And yup, i've had
tennis elbow as well. Talk to a good PT about specific stretches and strengthening excersises. And no matter how bad it hurts, don't let some doctor
shoot cortizone in there. The short term benefits aren't worth the risks. Rest, ice, ibuprofen and stretches are the way to go.

Ha Ha,
So I'm not alone ! It is in my left elbow and I'm right handed as well. Completely new ache to me ? But I'm a young 50
In the big scheme of aches and pains this has not been the kind of pain you have to pull away from at least
I will take a few days off of the bike and see if it fits as the cause . It is not being certian why it is happening that is odd .
I'm old but I'm open to change !:bigok:

Yeah!
I fully expect that I will be in just as much rough shape as anyone else when I'm in my later years. I have a father who is 49 trapped in a 80 year
old's body. I've been told that its best to take good care of your body so you can enjoy it when your older. But I figure I may as well enjoy the easy
bounce back body while I got it. Seriously though after seeing and reading about aches and pains that plague people in their old age it makes me want
to have fun while still taking care of my bones and joints the best I can. Take care of that elbow Blade but don't let it stop you from doing what you
enjoy.

Check out this article. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/25/phys-ed-an-easy-fix...
Hope this is of use. My brother has had recurring bouts of tennis elbow for years. This treatment is supposed to be quite effective.

I broke my elbo a couple of years ago. Since then I have alot of tendenitise in my forearm. I use a preasure band that costs about $5.00 and all is
good when I'm working or playing hard. It's uncomfortable but better than two days of pain afterward.
Now they need to make an inexpensive brace for my back. Broke that about 4 years ago and two surguries later it's good most of the time. But I have
my bad days!
I hope I don't get into the old age thing. Oh crap I think I'm there!!

Nice find on that PT 'rubber bar' exercise, Scudley. For me it is always best to try what I can do, rather than rely on the advice of a Dr. that
barely knows me, and always wants to give me some pills or surgeries, and gets offended if I ask too many questions. Thanks for that!
