"OOBE Field Chilli Run?"

Hey SoFKA, and South Eastern wanna B's! Of course anyone is welcome!

I have an idea for a winter meet-up here in SC at OOBE field (AKA The Polo Field) here in Aiken SC. I was thinking of a January or Feb meet up where we can get together for some cold weather flying. I'll make a great big pot-o-chilli and since it will be the coldest part of the season, we can call it the "OOBE Field Chilli Run". No problem if we don't have any wind, my Chilli will guarantee plenty of wind!!

Right now I don't have a date yet as I wanted to wait to see if there's enough interest for me to try to fix a date with the owner of the polo field and coordinate around polo matches and practices.

I won't have the "club house" anymore since I sold my old motorhome but I'll bring out my cooking pots and my propane heater. Might have a new camper by then....

Any thoughts?

Just waiting for you to leave town so there won't be that awkward moment during the invites.....

Actually, OOBE field won't be the same without you. At least I'll have the fond memory of you slowly ejecting over the side of your buggy, the buggy rolling over and klonking you on the head with a wheel.... Aaaaahhhh, good times....

You'll be missed Bobby!

Bing also offers a birdeye view, but alas the field is too big to get it all in one view. Take a look if you like. I've hit 25 mph in my buggy there.

There are also some pictures of Bobby and I
buggying at OOBE Field as well as land sailing pics on my picture link. Depending on the day, you'll either get grasshoppers or sometimes horse poo in the face so either way don't run with your mouth open laughing like I do. Bad...

The grasshoppers fly behind you if you are over 12 mph! Pants rolled into the socks and a snug collar. Picture Steve Urkel and you've got it. I never had horse poo in the face. Just don't aim for the ant hills. They might not be ant hills.

OK Peeps. How about a couple dates? I talked to the field owner and no problem for us to play Jan 9, 10 or 16, 17. We can schedule 9th and 10th and use the 16th and 17th as a back up rain/no wind date. We can do Sat and/or Sunday either weekend. I will be game for playing both days if anyone wants to. There are a few good motels in the area within 15 minutes or so of the field. I'd be glad to put up a couple kiter bums at my place as well. If I get another camper by then, that will be available too.

Whatever dates you think? :wee:

Cool! Beamer Bob and I were out there a couple days ago, the wind was between 5 and Scream Like a Girl! Bobby was flying Tridude's PKD Combat 4.2 and I was on a landsailer. We had fun although we were kicking up rooster tails of water/mud/horse poo since it had been raining all the previous day.

Glad we have some takers. I'm looking forward to seeing ya'll.

Yea, still on for the 9th! I'll bring my extra bug and both BloKarts as well for those who want to try those. I guess we need to take a day-before-wind-check and make sure it's worth ya'lls trip but right now were a go. Looking forward to seeing old and new friends.

I'm up in Maryland now, went to Rehoboth Beach, DE and static flew, 40 degrees and marginal wind for the effort. Today at a local park; Blokarted because there were light poles everywhere. 5 to 35mph wind range. Got tossed over about 3 or 4 times I guess but had fun anyway.

I'm game if the wind is good. The wind is backwards out on the coast...lets hope for the best. From what I can tell it is going to be pretty cold next weekend. Can you post a good link for the weather at OOBE Field so we can track it?

I use this aviation weather site which is already set to our area: http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?submit=go&am...

Windmapper works well but I'm comfortable with this one above.

OOBE's closest airport for weather is about 15 miles away as the crow flies I guess, but it's pretty accurate for OOBE Field.

Here's the link to find the OOBE Field as well: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=s&ie=UTF8&ll=33.456293...

Here's a nearby address: 2425 Storm Branch Rd Beech Island, SC : This comes out right in front of the entrance road to the kite field. The road showing at the middle of the field on the satelite view no longer exists. (Quote from Beamer Bob from last years Aiken Meet)

The town is Beech Island, SC. , look for intersection of Pine Log Road and Storm Branch Road. Field is about a hundred yards up on Storm Branch Rd.
