Kiteloops

How common are kiteloops done when landboarding? I know you see pushkiting guys do it, but is this like really extreme, or just a way to get some more distance and hangtime out of a jump?

It's not very common in the Düsseldorf Area, and we have some of Germany's best Landboarders.

in light air maybe 10mph about half of my transitions are jumps with a loop most all back loops. adds a little grunt and keeps the kite moving . in higher winds the power is greater so you don't have to loop it to keep it flowing.

we 've had a lot of side shore lately and too light for the water but a 2hr session with about 200 transitions may contain 50 plus loops . some times i get lazy with redirects a loop catches things up nicely. in chad's world its common.

I've also seen those videos too. The last few sessions I've been trying to learn jumping kiteloops. From what I've seen not many landboarders do loops like that. Most people only loop in a turn to keep power. Carltb is the only other person I've seen do them on land. Well that and gunner the guy who used to ride for PL. It seems the only people that do fully powered loops on land are team riders. So I don't know if many back yard locals can do them "well"

if you intend to do any comps then it is essntial that you can loop. if you are just cruising round your loal then its a matter of preferance. its just another trick to learn. on most uk beaches there will be at least one person who will be pulling sick loops.

alot depends on the kind of loop you do. if you do a down loop at the end of a turn then you tend to kill most of the power by going downwind. if you do heli loops (top of the window) then you get resonable "wang" but if you do a full on ballz to the wall mega loop then you can get pulled out of your shoes!!

Videos of each? I know there's one loop where you direct the kite in the opposite direction that you're travelling and then just keep it going until it makes a loop, but I don't know any other kinds.

mega loops on land, smoking hot i've seen lewis do a few . can't remeber the vid

that's alot of wind, alot speed, and u need alot of run out space. for land i'm passing on that one. do a huge air, then throw a loop at the apex. for water only in my book

kite backloop airs on trans. both land and water give a good snap, alot of speed downwind . the loops i pull on the water are in about 13-15mph or so with keeping the kite fairly high in the window. i remember the first couple where just shockingly fast but doable. adding the back roll with the loop is where i'm at and waiting for the "moment" to step into it.

lewis wilby mega vid? blackpool? maybe, seems like it was before that, carl posted the vid about 6-8months ago i think during a water competition

nice vid reference, carl

2 points

...keeping the kite high and somewhat depowered during the loop makes the kite come around quickly . if kept in for full power loop a mega loop is on the way!

...having a kite quick enough to come around helps this timing component, a smaller kite equals a quicker kite , so quick handling allows snappy loops,... as i moved to smaller kites loops just became a flow of power and speed.

To me the video of the Mega loop and the Heli loop look similar in technique, except for the fact that Hadlow's boosts him about 10 times as high. The video of the Heli loop was actually the video I was describing in one of my posts above. So what's the real difference between the two?

the heli loop if nothing like a mega loop.
in the hadlow vid the kite is level with him.

a switch to toeside and then a down loop turn ...these are nice, really a board riding skill though. commit the kite to a down loop,... then turn the board and fall back on to the kite for speed ( now u r ready for a hot jump in the sequence)

can be intimidating if speeds are already pretty high,

a down loop turn TO TOESIDE on a down wind running turn was a challenge for me . took quite a few low wind runs to get comfortable with that one . i much prefer a jump to toeside. these are great fundamentals that help add real flow to a session and can be run in an huge figure 8 line of riding.

power ----mega loops are gut checks, real apex intensity ...the wind the speed, all of it . the 30 ft drop at about 40 mph ..its sick! these are the impacts that produce ruptured eardrums, concussions, neck strains , broken bones etc
