Stopper ball question of PL Zero7 bar & lines

Apparently I'm lazy and impatient  I can't be bothered laying out the kite properly and determining the exact position for the stopper ball so I was thinking ...

Could I just put it on halfway down the lines? ie. at worst, 25m / 2 = 12m which is well longer than my biggest kite ...

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

I think that arc faq site has the length of most of the arcs. I'll have to get the address when I get home :(, unless someone else posts it first.

arc setup

I don't have this neatly tucked away in a shortcut folder. I always search for tiscali arc setup and its the first result. It is now updated with Charger info at the bottom.

And yes, if you are going to install the stopper ball, as long as the stopper ball does not prevent it from flagging out you are good.

That's the page Bob. I knew someone else would have it. My problem is that I can never even remember enough about it to do an effective Google search :D.

Don't bother. The ball *never* stays put when a bar hits it after release.

Kami you could go full lazy and just don't bother to put it on. I've never seen an arc flying with a stopper ball and before hearing geokite saying it doesn't even stay put when you use it, others say it increases you tangles and the difficulty to correct them. Stall the kite or put in at the edge of the window and let er go to safety.

One tip on avoiding safety deployment tangles is to have your safety leash on top of the bar so the bar doesn't go spinning and twisting when you deploy.

HUH !!!

Would switching to the top help ? Can you explain.

I had my stopper too close to the bar once. The bar stopped before the kite flagged and a mesy semi powered spin resulted ! Better too far or not at all.

Well this is stupidly smart, now that I think about it. With the leash under the bar, when you dump the bar on safety, the leash pulls tight under one end of the bar, same as smacking one end of the bar with you hand to spin it.
With the leash on top, the bar falls away from the leash underneath and does not get spun.

If the ball really never stays in place, simply sticking it halfway up the lines may actually be better than at the "correct" measurement. The bar should have lost more of it's momentum by the time it gets to the halfway point and would be less likely to move the ball, while still stopping the bar before it gets all the way to the kite.

In the back of my mind it bothers me to have something clamping down on my lines as well. I don't know if the ball actually compromises the line integrity, but I know it doesn't if I don't install it.

flag line stop ball. reduces the mess . but i can't remember last time i had one. walking toward the kite when it drops makes the bar stop where ever you like. on the water it is nice in the event of roll up rescue but not esstential. flag out length of the kite from flag line slide ring is point of placement . i think a stitched ball may have been the best thougha looped ring works .

adds drag in my book i omitt them for that alone

Hmm interesting ... the ball inside seems to have little crenelations where the line would be clamped ... I don't like the idea of skooshing up the lines either ... hmm

This popped up on arcusers and looks to be very bloody cool ... clever lot those Frenchies

I have create an album here (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/arcusers/photos/album/15560993...) Bar modification .

I used an Airush 5 lines bar, this bar already have a Y front line. I built a knot to attach both a ring and one of the front lines at the end of the first part of the front line. I passed the left front line through the ring and attached it to another ring. I cut the fifth line and attached it to the second ring, the fifth line now acts as a leach, it passes through the bar and the chicken loop. If I let go the bar, the leach pull on the left front line and the kite flag out. Since all the four lines follow the bar, they don't tangle and the relaunch is way easier.
