Old GI Cubes

Ok so I just ordered an older GI Flight 93 board from garydog on the site, I was wondering if anyone had any of the older cubes the board used. It has the green ones on it right now i was hoping to get something that would help me turn the board easier. B-Roc told me he has the yellow cubes on his board and its still semi-stiff, if anyone has anything less than that would you please be able to let me know?

I know that AWOC has the newer upgrades for the hangers and the cubes on there, but i guess id take a shot at finding some old ones if i could before getting that.

here ae some pictures if you guys want to know what model it is.

yellows may be good for you as you are heavier than I. I currently ride navy blues but don't have a spare set of either to send you

Thats fine, but i do want something that will let me carve more, back when I used to mess around with my skateboard i left the trucks really loose on them, i liked it more personally.

If you like them loose than the navy blue (kind of purplish) on the old cubes is what you want.

if you get some, don't hammer the kingpin out. It is precision fit and takes some wiggling. Can be quite tricky if it hasn't been removed in a while but work at it gently and it will pop out once aligned. Take the nut off and washer thing and then but the nut back on to keep the king pin assembled when removing. Stick it back on in the same fashion and then remove the nut, put the washer back on and then the nut again.

Hey B-Roc, do you know what year these are from or if they have a special name compared to the newer ones, i could see if i can try to find them online, but when i search for torsion cubes i just get random gi board links.

Hey Jolt, I definitely have the old cube designation chart at my home and can check it tonight but from what I remember this is how they were named and the colors that go along with it:

Street-Soft: Powder blue
Street-Semi: Royal blue
Street-firm: Navy blue (often looks purple in pics)
Off-road-soft: Yellow
Off-road-semi: green??
Off-road-firm: orange??

I can't remember if green or orange were the most stiff cubes but I do know for sure the order of everything up to yellow as I've owned / ridden the first 4 cubes in the list.

Jolt, I forgot to mention that the cubes you are looking for were the 2005 cubes and I found the chart that I was refering to and have the order right but the names backwards. This is how the above post should have read:

The 05 line from softest to hardest cubes only fit in older boards with the aluminum baseplate...(they DO NOT have a plastic outer shell and WILL NOT fit in the new plastic baseplate)

1. Light blue (offstreet soft)
2. Medium (royal) blue (offstreet semi)
3. Dark (navy) blue (offstreet firm) sometimes look purple in pics
4. Yellow (light orange) (street soft - stock cube)
5. Green (street semi)
6. Orange (street firm)

http://webelieveinsantaclaus.com/products/allTerrainBoards/ this place is in Canada but still lists the old boards maybe they have the old cubes

http://forum.kitecrowd.com/kite-landboarding/gi-torsion-cube... this is the stiffness chart - it doesn't give the name of the cubes as I listed above but it gives their intended use / rider weight. The ones that look black are the navy blues that I'm recommending.

You might want to give Matt at GI a call and ask if they have any still kicking around or know where to find them. He's usually pretty helpful.

Alright thanks, I found another site a bit back that was selling them I'm talking to one of the guys there through email, if they don't have the stiffness I need I'll hit your site up too, thanks. Its another Canadian site that sells the older boards.

Hmm... they don't seem to have the cubes listed on their site, but I'll take a look when I'm sure the other guys don't have the cubes.

Newer T3 cubes are not color coded but numbered. And there are now 7 grades instead of 5. They are $24.99 a pair. New boards and Trucks come with 4's - medium.

They'll still fit in the 2009 hangers though, right? Pretty please? :sniff:

Not much for emails, but GI picks up their phone right quick unless they are at an event.

Give them a holler. At the least, depending on how closely they tracked their shipping records, they might be able to point you directly to a dealer that is sitting on a silo of old cubes.

Sam

Yeah, when I was asking them the other day, they would have told me otherwise. It came up when I was asking about pics of the colored cubes for my web site. They all look the same now except for the numbering.

Sales manager Dave will likely be the one to answer the phone and he is helpful.
